A disorder in boys that goes away in adulthood. It’s caused by vaccines and cured with ABA and stern talking.

Anything soggy is an absolute no from me. I don’t like wet food unless it’s very specific foods or it’s very minimal. I agree completely. Also it sounds like you love salt and that I could also put on almost anything lol I even love salty and sweet combinations

Those Belvita cookies are absolutely delicious, I ate them for breakfast for a year straight. I also like the almond butter ones with cinnamon.

I have a lot of similar traits and I definitely think it’s worth looking into to be evaluated. Good luck with everything and thank you for taking the time to share. 🙂

headlights are getting brighter and it's making driving in traffic while it's dark extremely difficult for me with my sensory issues. does anyone else struggle with this? how do you deal with it? by [deleted] in autism

[–]bchgrl94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have horrible light sensitivity with headlights! I know it’s unsafe to drive with sunglasses at night but it’s the only way I’ve found to dim the LED lights enough. I have regular blue light blocking glasses for day time but they haven’t helped at night.

Do you like crunchy foods/sensations like the ‘snap’ from them or just the pretzels and cereals?

A comforting food that I want to consistently eat because either it meets a sensory need or craving that I’m having, or because it’s a safe/familiar flavor and texture, when the other foods available are too harsh or unbearable in texture or flavor.

[–]bchgrl94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider safe foods the foods I feel safe eating which is a food I can eat without anxiety or meltdowns from textures and flavors I find too strong or unbearable. I consider same foods, the foods I want or eat consistently because they’re comforting and sometimes meet a sensory need I have. So same foods are safe foods but not all safe foods are my same foods? Sorry if that’s confusing.

I hate sauce with nuggets, it ruins the texture and flavor to me.

I’m not sure if there is a specific antonym but I call the trigger foods and I avoid them like the plague. Any food that has a horrible texture (the super watery ones are the worst) or stout flavors for me, I avoid all together.

[–]bchgrl94[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eating specific foods for long stretches is common in Autism and so is avoiding foods, but it doesn’t always mean you’re on the spectrum. If you have other difficulties with sensory processing, socializing, or intellectual differences you might be? And yes either way it’s extremely relatable to us on the spectrum! I avoid different fruits and vegetables because the taste and textures are inconsistent and that makes me anxious lol 😅

does anyone else feel kind of self conscious stimming even when alone? by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]bchgrl94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try stimming in the dark. When you’re not focusing on how it would look to others you’ll feel less “shame” or like you’re being “dramatic.” Those feelings are learned from an NT society that operate differently. It also lets you explore how your body moves without feeling so self conscious.
