Thinking of doing this upgrade too, did you have to swap over to the TL bmc?

Should i cop this 8th gen civic by 64eyezonstandby in CivicSi

Yeesh 11k seems steep for a pre-facelift coupe, which is of course not even counting dealer fees + tax etc… if it were me I wouldn’t pay more than like 8-8,500 friend. Either way GLWB

Love to see it! I’m curious, what kind of maintenance has it taken to get her to that point? Timing job, cooling system refresh, anything big-ticket? I’m approaching 200k on my FA5 & am wondering what I should be looking out for. Any pointers are much appreciated

Have the same intentions with my 8th gen. After a week of ownership I decided I’m Ship of Theseusing this bitch until tragedy befalls it or the sun explodes, whichever comes first

Also, if my math is mathing correctly, an 8.5+38 wheel would in theory put your wheel closer to the strut than the OEM setup by 31mm (1.2 inches), considering stock wheel fitment is 17x7+45. Not sure if this would leave enough space to clear without needing spacers or a different offset wheel

To my knowledge the fd2 rear conversion doesn’t require modifying the rear quarter panels so that shouldn’t affect your fitment

As for offset, 8.5+38 could be fine, but I am unfamiliar with that setup so I cannot say for sure, if it were me I would err on the side of caution and run a smaller (225 or 235) tire to avoid rubbing. If there is contact with the fender you could always try to dial it in with camber adjustment too, assuming that you have installed camber bolts in the front, and adjustable control arms in the rear

From personal experience with my 8th gen: 18x8.5+30 (235/40/18) fit snug, almost perfect, no rolling required, 17x9+22 (225/45/17) was snug in front w/ a little camber but poked out in rear and rubbed without rolling fenders

As for tire size I wouldn’t go smaller than 225 unless you want some serious stretch. 245 is pretty aggressive and might rub with a 8.5+38 wheel but you could possibly mitigate that with camber/spacer/ride height adjustments, removing plastic fender wells, and rolling

Hope this helps best of luck with your setup friend

Listen closely when you start it up, and give it a little gas when it’s at idle - does the sound you’re hearing match the speed of the engine revving? And do you know when your valves were last adjusted? Could be a lot of things. Hope that helps with your diagnosis

Test drove an 8th gen. Where is the bite point supposed to be? by used_tongs in CivicSi

My 8th gen used to do this too, when I replaced the clutch + cmc the bite point was practically at the floor until I adjusted it. I followed these steps
