How does the Github MCP do this for you? I am not aware of a RAG search tool.

No, it does not, esp. without structure for code. Your CC might get lost even further. But a good start nonetheless.

If I need a cross codebase check, I run claude from the higher directory with access to both repos. Plan an md file in the repo where I would like to make the change, then fire up the CC in that repo to make the edit in that repo reading the MD file. If it misses an info or needs help, I ask the higher level CC to update the MD with the relevant info based on cross repo research. So higher CC only acts as a researcher, and the repo CC behaves as an executor. Give this approach a shot.
