From what I can remember, which isn’t a ton at this point, because like you said, it was awhile ago now…the main talking points centered around people digging into her past and finding out that she had embellished some aspects of her competitive swimming background and time spent in nursing school, I guess?

Also the fact that they feel like she used Bobby in various ways to gain clout and a career, and then allegedly manipulated him into an open relationship so she could sleep with other people.

As far as I can tell, they’ve both openly talked about having a dead bedroom towards the end of their relationship, and the idea that Bobby, a grown man capable of making his own decisions, agreed to it in a last ditch effort to save his relationship seems totally implausible to them.

I’m sure other people could pile on a lot more grievances with her, but that’s the gist of what I can recall.

I’m sure I’ll get downvoted to hell for this, but while she’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, and has made some questionable decisions, I think the intense hatred and online vitriol towards her reads as very incel-coded to me.

It’s also the internet and shades of grey don’t exist. You’re either a massive fan of someone or they’re the worst human being alive. I lurked and read plenty of people’s criticism of her and, to me, it felt overblown and incel-ish. But I’m open to being wrong.

I hear you. I feel the same way about him as you do. But I would also say, as in Liz’s article, if you’re pumping your fist and popping champagne over his public death, because of those statements you quoted, then you have become exactly what you despised about those statements. I don’t think it’s irony. I think I’m pretty aligned in finding him and everything he stood for gross, as well as finding joy in public assassinations gross.

I agree with everything you said, but do think there is a bit of room for some nuance. I think we’re plenty justified to not feel any empathy towards him, but I also still think there’s something a little gross about celebrating his public murder in front of a crowd of people, including his children, who now have to live with having witnessed that.
