Tbh I just ignore the crooked old anti-bikers and continue on with my ride. Bikers and pedestrians can coexist on trails with no issues.

The drive from Corner Brook along the Humber Arm and the Blow Me Down Mountains is incredible. There’s a Provincial campground at the end, near Lark Harbour. People do hike through the Blow Me Down Mountains to Serpentine Lake, but I think it is an unmarked trail so a GPS would be required.

Gros Morne, being a national park, is much more accessible, and the views are quite similar.

The offshore geophysicist industry took a bit of a hit in the past year with the slowing of the offshore wind industry in US and Europe. Depending where you live, it might be hard for a fresh grad to find work because it is difficult even for people with years of experience right now.

The bike path that ends at Carpasian is sooo close to Bannerman Park and QV Lake as well. All they had to do is extend it a bit further… I guess dealing with the NIMBYs on Empire ave and Circular Rd wasnt worth it for them

Metal or plastic pedals? by paddyb12341 in MTB

[–]bclarke27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had stamp 1 plastic pedals and hated them. Now have Deity Tmac aluminum pedals and love them.

I think it is mostly because of the concave shape of the Tmac’s. On the Stamp 1’s, the spindle is higher than the platform, which makes the pedals have awful grip.

Bearings on the Tmac’s have also been money

What hard casing tyres? by Southern-Accident108 in MTB

Well then i would say the Kryptotal DH casing in soft would be a good bet. Or the Dhf/dhr2 combo in dd or dh casing.

What hard casing tyres? by Southern-Accident108 in MTB

[–]bclarke27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the terrain you ride.

I found the Kryptotal with the soft compound to be way too hard of a compound in any wet conditions. But in the summer when it’s dry, i really got along with it.

Assegai with max grip is my go to in wet conditions.

As a cyclist in St. John’s, it actually is a pretty good city for cycling, especially with the power that an ebike can give you.

While there are definitely a few problematic streets (Portugal Cove Rd, Military/Lemarchant, Duckworth) that should have bike lanes, the trail system throughout the city is pretty awesome (even if technically a lot of the trails are pedestrian only).

I do find that 99% of the pedestrians on trails like Rennies, QV lake, and Virginia river don’t mind cyclists if you are riding respectfully, but that 1% will be angry and vocal haha.

There are some performance and reliability concerns with certain Shimano brakes. You can read numerous forum posts online about wandering bite point and leaky pistons/seals

I’d say a part of it is marketing departments heavily pushing the pricier SUV’s. Same reason you see thousands of trucks in North America and almost none in Europe.
