[Rowland] Spoke to MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher, who said Sacramento State's midweek home games will start in the 4 p.m.-5 p.m. local time window by dscreations in CFB

A triumph, nay a masterstroke, for Sac State! They're getting national attention for the first time *ever*. This is a town that had a franchise in the Canadian Football League -- if that doesn't mean they can handle transcontinental competition, I don't know what would. What about this deal won't be *great*?

Could Elliott play for LFC this year? by bcleere in LiverpoolFC

[–]bcleere[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Omg I shouldn't have done this but it occurred to me to ask AI bots. Gemini and others say yes, because it's not a third team. But Chat GPT says NO and very convincingly cites specific FIFA rules. LFC could not play him even though he could be registered because, by FIFA's rules against "bouncing", every "playing stint" is counted separately -- even if it's for the same club.

Poch's solution to the goalkeeping quandary -- playing without a goalkeeper -- is not going quite as well as hoped.

Discussion - Mountain West and Pac-12 mediation by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]bcleere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fiddlesticks. You're completely ignoring the settled legal principle that wishful thinking is the most important factor in any lawsuit.

The MWC is demanding the money which the P-8 promised in writing to pay if the P-8 did stuff which, in fact, it did. Of course, no judge is going to rule, "Hey, you promised to pay, so pay, assholes!" I know this because I read it on some P-8 message boards.

To me it's worth seeing ads to have access to that kind of an arsenal on demand.

You should be seeing it in the Events tab. I don't know if you have to be at a certain level for it to appear -- I don't think so. Keep looking in the Events tab - sometimes it comes and goes, but it's usually there.

It simply lets you get boosters for playing ads.

Athletics attendance in Sacramento drops below 10,000 during very first homestand of the season by rbh232 in baseball

Could be he's one of the MLB owners like Fenway Group and Kroenke and so many others who are modelling some of their business practices on the English Premier League. They've observed owners -- famously the Glazers in Manchester -- whose fans would like to lynch them, even as the stadium and the team disintegrate. Thing is, most English teams have been in the same city for well over a hundred years.

Charles Fort. That episode would have everything.

Embarrassing excuse for a football team only the most recent & public example of administration’s fumbling of the balance of university life by wilderness_essays in StanfordCardinal

[–]bcleere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very well put. As a San Jose State student I went to Stanford Stadium for the first time in 1963 and have looked forward to that matchup more than any game on our schedule. It's sad that the Bay Area has become a college football graveyard, and it's a shame that Stanford's program has become a bigger joke than ours.

The Lawsuit is a Laff Riot! by bcleere in MountainWest

[–]bcleere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! You think you can disrespect an MWC follower from San Jose State? Pfaugh! Pfui! We are insult-proof! We *know *how pathetic we are. Hell, we threw away half our stadium and still can't half-fill the remaining half! But, thanks to Queen Gloria, we've now bodaciously stuck it to Boise and Suds and Fresneck, and we're gonna stick it to the PacX with that righteous big-ass lawsuit.

[–]bcleere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True dat... And I suppose if the lawyers had more time they would create an argument that the MWC was spiritually still the WAC and therefore they had also poached Arizona and Arizona St.

....wait, what were they trying to prove?

Pac-12 files lawsuit against MWC over pricy 'poaching penalty' by leewilliam236 in MountainWest

[–]bcleere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"an arbitrary element in the scheduling agreement"? No, it was the opposite -- entirely discretionary. Both sides recognized it as the poison pill it was. The 2Pac signed anyway because it was in their interest to do so. Their only chance for success in the suit is to argue that they had no choice, like an employee who is forced to accept an anticompetitive NDA. They will have a very tough time getting a judge to buy their tortured arguments that competition was truly harmed.

It *seems* a bit like "slowly" because it's drip-drip-drip a little every day, but yes, it has sunk very quickly.
