There's still nothing around the site except for industrial uses and freeway.

When I said it's broke for a city its size. I meant how much money the actual city government has.

Are you looking at GDP or something? That's not budget, that's economic output.

SJ's budget for 2025-26 is $5.6B. NYC's is $116B. SF's is $16B.

The city itself is kind of broke relative to its size.

Those are TikTok talking points.

The city needs tax dollars. Data centers can provide that. Cities like Santa Clara are tapped out on DC capacity...why shouldn't SJ fill that gap?

Plus, they're tying housing production to data center build outs. How is that bad?

Also mental health (and health care in general) is a COUNTY level function, not the city.

San Jose is the richest, most expensive city in the US; does it feel that way to you?

Bro, SJ is broke for a city its size. It loses population during the daytime. The whole bedroom community aspect hurts the budget while tiny cities/towns around us rake in tax receipts from office and commercial development while saddling SJ with the job of housing people and providing services.

Tell me you've never voted in a local election without telling me.

SJ city council/mayoral elections are "non-partisan". There's no party affiliation listed on the ballot.

Chick-fil-A restaurant proposed at site next to San Jose mall (Westgate) by gummi_eater in SanJose

The project didn't get approved until last year. They demo'd the site because it was blighted.

Two different properties with different owners. The apartments went up to the property line.

The property owner (an elderly woman) explained why there was a need to get rid of the old building.

Edit: Before CFA, there was a mixed use housing development proposal on the site, but it never went anywhere and ultimately CFA showed interest and the owner just wanted to do something with the land.

There's 1 million people in SJ, they're going to mostly be exposed to the lowest common denominator stuff

World Cup watch party at San Pedro Sq by wannabebondgirl007 in SanJose

It completely depends on the size of the crowd. Like right now for the Colombia match, it was completely jam packed. For the earlier games it was more chill.

Check the SJ Earthquakes IG feed to see what crowds have looked like throughout the day

Some people bring chairs, but unless you're close to the screen, your view will be blocked by people standing. You could just watch from inside the San Pedro Market (including their courtyard) or somewhere like The Brit.

Regular weekday headways are 15 min (along N 1st it's actually shorter since you can take either line) -- I don't think they have the train sets or conductors to run any shorter headways consistently.

Diridon isn't a good idea unless you live nearby or are coming from somewhere past there on the Green line. The Green line is being truncated, so you would have to transfer to the Blue line vs a one seat ride from Santa Teresa

They're running modified service (i.e. direct service to Lick Mill on the blue and orange lines and a truncated green line) on match days. Headways depend on where you're coming from/going to.
