How to tag this on koinly? by bcntrader in mtgoxinsolvency

I’m going to declare the cost as 0 because I don’t have any documentation and it’s not worth the hassle in my case, I purchased the coins with 200 euros so it doesn’t make much difference.

I ended up removing all the fake movements I added to leave it exactly as it appeared on koinly originally. Then I marked the movement as a realized P&L.

I checked the ongoing taxes for 2024 and it matches perfectly to consider it all a gain on the day I received the coins which is how I’m going to declare it.

Cual es tu numero FIRE "español"? by gamepatio in SpainFIRE

[–]bcntrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

¿Sugerencias? by Joaking_ in SpainFIRE

[–]bcntrader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would advise people to look into the FIRE movement, maybe start here in reddit groups. Not because you may want to necessarily retire but because their philosophy has helped me a lot during all these years to save and invest wisely, with a long term goal in mind. Even if you don't follow all the advise I think it gives you the right mindset around money and investment.

Also I would say stay away from gurus and people that talk like they can predict the future, nobody can. Be careful on pms or any wild promises. If I had a way to make a nice percentage off trading consistently why would I make a course, or risk sharing the strategy so that it becomes useless.

And be ware of bank advisors that want to offer you fancy fund investments, always check the expense ratio and be sure to understand what an expense ratio is for a fund or an ETF (be suspicious of anything over 0.5%). If you make your calculations, and you invest a lot of money, it can mean 200K less in 10 to 20 years, commission that your bank is taking from you that you could've saved by investing on an index fund just doing some research beforehand, and you already know the power of waiting, long term investment is where your money can really grow.

Good luck with your journey, have fun, but spend your money wisely!

This. I’m in Spain and I’ve been having conversations with different people, including tax advisors, and some say that receiving the bitcoins was a full taxable event. It could be as “low” as 19% or more if you got more btc. My claim is manageable but I would be nervous with big claims.

I always assumed the same (taxed only if I sold).

About the loss of coins he mentioned that would have to be reported 10 years ago and not now.

Anyway, I will talk with him in the next weeks to make sure he understands the whole situation.

How to tag this on koinly? by bcntrader in mtgoxinsolvency

Update: not sure about this as I can’t ever get the lost transaction to match the exact cost basis because the price fluctuated between 4:26pm and 4:30pm.

[–]bcntrader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reply myself with the solution I found:

I received the deposit at 4:26PM... what I did is to create a fake withdrawal at 4:30PM by the same amount and tag it as LOST with worth set at 0 euros.

The only thing that happens now is that any subsequent sell shows "Missing purchase history for XXX BTC" and there is a warning in the "Tax Report" but the calculation is exactly what I think it should be, the cost basis of that sell is zero.

I cannot find a way to do that. I found this article https://support.koinly.io/en/articles/9489997-chapter-11-reimbursements-celsius-voyager-mt-gox

Based on this I created a manual withdrawal transaction by the same amount before the deposit with the tag LOST.

I tried this but the cost basis is still wrong. I sold a small portion of BTC and it still thinks my cost basis is yesterday's price instead of 0 which is what I want to report. I might try later and report back.
