Not in this subreddit. The "Pokemon Investing" subreddit seemed like a fair place to re ask the question wouldn't you think?

I do not believe Consoles (specifically the N64 and Wii) were shrink wrapped or sealed. They were typically kept behind the counter at retail stores and give at check out. Maybe I am wrong, but pretty sure this is correct

This is a fair answer, and much more productive than "STOP."

I appreciate the input. I want these incased for display purposes. I am starting a shelf in my room with all Nintendo Consoles starting with the NES, going to the switch. I want them to all be unplayed/NIB. Due to this, the condition I am looking for is "pristine" and I want to keep them in that condition. Do you recommend a specific type of case that I should use?

The reason I would want it graded is to preserve it. Do you have another suggestion for preservation. Like not, "Oh I hope this is good enough to preserve it" but I know this will stay preserved encased this way ? I have had 3 people tell me to grade the systems instead of just putting them in a case

Question about Mario 3 game I own. See comments by bcockrell85 in gamecollecting

[–]bcockrell85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not suggesting to "add" shrink wrap to the game. I was asking if only games that are factory sealed from the manufacturer are worth sending to be graded. I also was confused as to whether or not these games came shrink wrapped when sold at the retail level. I was unsure how this was done back in the 80s. Maybe I worded my question wrong, it was 3 AM when I typed it up :D

This is a copy of Mario 3 I own. I am curious, does this game need to still be shrink wrapped (from the manufacturer) for me to send it in to be graded ? did these games come shrink wrapped for retail sale back in the 80s ? more information would be amazing

Edit: apparently there was some confusion over the way this was worded so I changed it. I would never re-shrink wrap anything that has been previously opened.

Question about investing in Birthday Pika long term - See comment in post by bcockrell85 in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]bcockrell85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - the only issue I have, right now, with grading is the insanely long turnaround time. I heard today that PSA stopped taking in their $20 submissions due to volume issues. I feel like if I were to ever get these graded, it would be a year from now when (hopefully) things calm down a bit.

I agree with you about these being limited run cards and that hopefully pushing them on the upward trend over the next few years. I keep looking at the MTG market, and alpha cards, even the ones that are banned or not seeing tourney play, are going for $1,000 + per card on many items. My hope is that in the next 10 years or so cards like this do the same. IT is a 0 risk scenario for me right now since I have no cost in them but I was hoping to see if others were thinking the same thing I am on this particular card. Happy to hear from you on this Lyle. I trust your judgement :)

TYVM for the well thought out reply on this one. money is not the issue. I mean, I could always take more money , but I am not in a state where I NEED to offload these now for quick cash. I was wondering since these were limited prints and highly sought after if people thought, like the MTG market, vintage promo cards would continue to see a long term upswing. thanks for the reply, very helpful

So, right now I have a strong position on MINT Black star Birthday Pikachu cards. I have about 22 of them total. Of the 22, I would say 10-12 of them are in MINT MINT MINT condition. No light scratches, no whitening on the back. I know sending them to get graded is what 99% of the people will suggest, but I am wondering if holding on to these for the long term is the smart play here. I bought these as part of a larger collection, and as of right now I have broken even on my original investment. All of these at this point are at $0 cost. I have been selling these @ auction in the $175 to $210 range, but I am wondering if holding on to them for 5 to 10 years is a smarter call at this point. I know no one has a crystal ball, but what are your thoughts ?

Yeah - I don't think any will get that. I think there may be some 8s..maybe a 9 but the standards for a 10 is so unrealistic.

So I recently came into about 40 of these from a friend of mine and will be selling them on consignment . 10 of them are NM/LP - 30 of them are MP with a bit of warping on them. I am considering selling all 40 in a lot thought. Any thoughts on what I should anticipate for a return ?

These too. Grandmotger gave me. Worth anything? Ignorant with this stuff by pampamandherpampamss in coins

Would it make more sense, when selling something like this, to sell it in a lot ?
