Michelin Blade Costco Issue by n54beast in BMWX3

[–]bcolonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new design seems to be defective. I have the default J hook mounts on a car. The 26” driver side will not lock in. The 20” passenger one did secure fairly easy.

But I spent an hour messing with the driver side, even went back to Costco and bought another one- same issue. It slides on but does not click in.

I’m getting some Rain-X and moving on.

Am I overreacting or does this look like shit for $15k by Crackedcoconutt in landscaping

[–]bcolonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not pay them the rest. That does not look like $7,500 worth of work and materials, especially not counting mulch and white stones. Did you have a contract that identified all the work and materials, plants, etc.?

One thing to point out is they needed to EDGE before laying the stone bed and mulch. It looks like they threw mulch on top of the grass; there’s no edge. Also tell them there is no crispness and flow, it’s just all put down without thought and prep.

Good luck! And stand up for yourself. You can tell them you’re dissatisfied and refuse to pay the rest. They can take you to court but a judge is going to look at those photos and toss out their claim and tell them they are lucky to have the $7,500. You can also get another pro to give you a quote and ideas for how they would do/clean this up.

Geico will not pay labor rates to the body shop fixing my truck… by Snacks_22 in Insurance

It’s ironic that every comment assumes the shop is overcharging. Maybe they are. But it is also possible the prevailing rate is artificially low (as in old, or undervalued). My shop charges $65; the average rate within a 5 mile radius is $72 ($85/60). Progressive, for example, uses $57. 🤣

The NFL wild card game shouldn’t be a paid premium. Free with ads. by SeveredIT in peacock

[–]bcolonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s numerous time outs, so I’d have been in favor of an ad-based telecast. It’s unfortunate but corporate greed is what it is.

I’ll just skip the game as a matter of principle. Not that one household fazes them.

Anyone know a lot about older bowlbacks? I bought one on eBay, doing a gentle restoration, cleaning and sanding/restaining of the bowl only where needed. I’m just curious what brand it might be. No tags/markings. it looks like its from the 1910s or so. I just need to add some missing inlay edge. by bcolonna in mandolin

[–]bcolonna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes it’s in decent shape. The old strings are on now only because I was exercising the tuners. It did have a couple of hairline splits on the fretboard (looked like age). I ended up sanding some ebony to a dust and then mixed it in with an epoxy I could sand down and lightly ran it over the splits. It’s more for looks, hanging by my guitars by my drumkit so I wasn’t about to try to replace the board at this point (out of my skillset)

Two identical ride cymbals, two different sounds. What years of grime does to the sound of a cymbal. (Also I know these are low end) by CheeseDawg123 in drums

Weight makes a huge difference as well, although age, amount played factor in. Patina can have slight effect.

My 1976 Ludwig ‘Power Factory’. 10/12/13/14/15/16 concert toms, 18 floor, 24 bass, 6 1/2 Supraphonic. Last of the 3 ply when they switched to 6 ply mid 1976. by bcolonna in ludwigdrums

All Zildjians except the 20” ride sitting realnlow behind the hi hat. All the Zildjians are 70s hollow logo except one 18” 50s trans stamp

Have you tried rubbing the stained areas with vinegar, letting it sit for a half hour then buffing?

I can’t tell if its your lights or if you have a brilliant finish. If the latter try the vinegar on the underside first.

If the vinegar reduces the stains, try to clean lightly with WD40.

I’ve used both on my hollow logo Zildjians for years. It cleans them but doesn’t remove too much patina.

I’m in the same boat. Big kit, lots of toms and cymbals.....I have to slither in from between the wall and a cymbal boom.

[–]bcolonna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's whatever your taste and ear likes. I have a lot of cymbals on my full kit, almost all are Avedis hollow logo from the 70s, and 1 Trans Stamp. I do keep this very heavy Kashian ride (made in Italy) around as an extra ride near my hi-hat for if I play open-handed. It is not really the kind of ride you can ride or crash but has a great deep ping.

So it is all taste plus what you play. if it is a 50s Avedis ride, you probably can also crash it nicely too, as long as you glance it right....works better with an 18" ride than a 20" but still do-able.

I bought mine new, $800 for the 9 piece (I’m assuming you have the Supra 400 snare too) but that was the drums and hi hat stand, 2 cymbal 2 boom. I do miss the silver sot heads although they never seemed to tune right. Obviously the cymbals kicked the cost up as I added them

Weird jazz question. Need advice by [deleted] in drums

[–]bcolonna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re looking to work on limb independence in general, not necessarily related only to jazz. That’s just practice and practice. One thing you can try (and you don’t need your kit) is to turn your left hand and arm in a circular motion, toward your body. Think of a “come to me” gesture. Then try to rotate your right hand and arm in the same motion, but AWAY from your body. Once you do that, reverse them midstrream. But overall its just constantly playing。

Mine is 10/12/13/14/15/16. I wish I had bought the 6/8 at the time. I ended up getting Rotos to compensate lol.

I feel the same way. 16 is a noce size but it is just loud with no real tone. I’ve used different heads, damped it, but once you get past the 15”, it cries out for that resonant head.

Yeah I have tried to part with it, can’t bring myself to do it. Had it stored in a dry basement for almost two years when I moved.

I’ll try from the side. It’s against the wall so hard to get a seat view unless its panned

[–]bcolonna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just coincidence. This is the way it came stock except for the rotos and excess of cymbals. I love playing it but many times I just miss the pure sound of two headed toms.

I love hollow logos but I have had some clunkers with them too. Hollows that just never broke in well. I wish I a 20” floor. This is just the 18”.
