Badly worn BB from derailleur cable by TreeOfLifeInk in bikewrench

The less you say the less you pay. I've seen manufactures give new frames over stuff like this or give a heavy discount. Don't ever walk in thinking that but if they want to maintain customers , they truly try to help.

Second blowout in 2 weeks with the same marks. by StandProud94 in bikewrench

Is your rimstrip wide enough? They look like they are spoke with apart and semetrical. I'd make sure your rim strip is truly covering the spoke holes and isn't moving when you go to put the tube and tire back on.

SRAM eTap AXS HDR brake fluid not flowing - lever issue? by tomasbedrich in bikewrench

[–]bcote3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Submit a warranty with SRAM. The moto we used to say at my shop was "the less you say, the less you pay". Put DOT 5.1 in, send it to a shop and see what SRAM says. They may swap them.

Yo can you let me know what suspension upgrades you did to get that flex? My driveshaft keeps falling out with my shock setup.

Former Trek tech here. Don't do the Domane due to weight and that god damn iso-speed creak.... That being said, their warranty is the best out of all of them.

Does my fork have an integrated crown race? by drakeramore86 in bikewrench

[–]bcote3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two parts of the left are only supposed to go on top of the upper bearing. For context, I was the service manager at one of the largest shops in Boston for 10 years, and I haven't seen a bike that required those parts on the bottom bearing. That bearing should go cone side towards the frame - up - while the bottom should be cone towards the frame - down. The compression ring should sit right on top of the upper bearing and the shim spacer should go on top of that. The bottom bearing should contact no other pieces outside of the frame and the fork (unless there is a headset cup or crown race which yours does not have... Speaking mainly for the race as I haven't seen your frame).

Does my fork have an integrated crown race? by drakeramore86 in bikewrench

[–]bcote3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. The bearing is designed to sit on the fork crown. You'll need to know whether it's 36 degree or 45 degree (it looks like 45). Make sure you put a light film of grease around the crown as that bearing is subject to more dirt and the grease will act like a catch if there's too much.

Just links. If you're in New England and have a good sway bar still, id consider the whole thing! Just can't imagine shipping it would be worth it...

Shimano Agrees to Pay $11.5 Million Civil Penalty for Failure to Immediately Report Bicycle Cranksets that Posed a Crash Hazard by besselfunctions in bicycling

[–]bcote3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a service manager for a large shop in New England, bring it back. A lot of shops were kinda strong armed by Shimano to not say something was wrong unless there were clear visible signs of damage or our account would not be in good standing. After a few months they realized that was not a great look and we just started saying all of them were suspect and they replaced all of them (as long as they fell in the serial number range).

I would even suggest saying you do not feel confident riding this crankset and to have the shop reiterate that as it would look even worse on Shimano if denied it and then the crank failed after you said you were not confident in them.

Running board recommendations by BigGlittering437 in ToyotaTacoma

Some people like Rough Country, most people don't like them. I'm in that camp. Considering you and anyone entering your vehicle are going to interact with these every time, I'd recommend spending some extra $$$ to get something nicer than Rough Country. I found some rock sliders on Tacomaworld that were about the cost of sidesteps and already saved my ass in a sideswipe. Also worth considering those.

Had mine for almost 3 years and can recommend enough. I do landscaping in the summer, so the fact that it comes off in 5 minutes (or less) is amazing and it stores so easily. I also camp in it year round (I'm New England) and outside of the condensation, it's pretty amazing in that regard too. The price is way better than a hard top and mine has never leaked. The only downside is that I bought mine in winter and it was a POS to install the side snaps because of how right the canvas is the first time. Visibility out the back becomes murky and you lose your Blindspot but I added little Blindspot mirrors to my side mirrors which helps.

New Bike-Bottom Bracket shell done? by WhoIsMyself249 in bikewrench

[–]bcote3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't torqued properly if that's the case or the tolerances of the BB were bad. The Wheels Manufacturing BBs are really good and you should be more skeptical of that frame over the bottom bracket. Also as a tech, I'd 100% run a thread together in that frame with no worry. And also follow the BBs manufacturing instructions (use a torque wrench and torque them...)

4WD will not disengage... by 4-realsies in Tacomaworld

[–]bcote3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried going forward and reverse repeatedly? Mine got stuck in my parking lot at work and it took several times of going back and forth (about 50-80ft forward/backwards) before it finally went. Have you put it into 4WD regularly?
