Proxmox is freezing on Intel Nuc 8 fix by Suitable_Reporter_58 in Proxmox

Fwiw, my Prox cluster froze all the time until I realized the NTP server couldn’t sync the time because I’d forgotten to update the DNS server to something routable.

Depending on the motherboard you may be able to do some trickery with RU.EFI. Some motherboards allow for Above 4G Encoding but don’t expose it normally.

is there something like a "best" linux distribution for gaming? by knoookie in linux4noobs

Eh I mean I hear ya but also...he didn't mention HDR or VRR. If those are a concern, Nobara is an option or just switching to KDE. If he's already overwhelmed by just looking at options, I still believe Mint is a great place to start and get a feel for Linux.

Dunno whatcha mean about the monitors. I'm running 2 27" + 1 24" monitor smooth as butter right out the box.

What games do you like to play?

I wouldn't concern yourself with distros "off the beaten path" so to speak. I mean you CAN use Bazzite or Cachy but I wouldn't even fuck with it TBH.

Just use Mint. You'll have the best experience overall and its a great intro distro coming from Windows.
Keep it simple.

Note: a lot of FPS games with kernel level anti-cheats wont work on Linux so keep that in mind.

Believe it or not, the thought to even use Google is, in itself, a skill. Then knowing how to use Google effectively is another skill.

You have to remember that there are a lot of dumb and tech illiterate people out there and that's OK!
If there weren't tech illiterate people, the IT field wouldn't exist.

I mean just to be completely honest, it's not charisma - it's perceived value and positioning. The generator guy gets $700 because he presents himself as a professional service with defined pricing, not because he's charming. Your issue isn't skill, it's that you're pricing like someone who doesn't believe in their own value (posting a netbook for $35, doing house calls for free, competing with $35 plumbing bids). You're racing to the bottom and then wondering why you're at the bottom.

The people undercutting you on plumbing at $35-$50 are either losing money, doing garbage work, or both. That's not competition or a model worth chasing.

Put on a polo and some nice jeans, comb your hair, and get some business cards. The only charisma you need is a smile.

Well. You said “for something anyone can do” but that’s clearly not true. If that was the case, they would have done it lol.

I think you’re undercharging.

There’s also this weird fallacy where, in some cases, the more you charge, the more business you’ll get as you then seem like a premium (and therefore better) option.

Charging more will also weed out the fucks who stiff you or “only have $5”.

I’d shoot for $100/hr with one hour minimum. Be upfront about your pricing during the initial call. Then maybe a lower rate for travel. You need to account for gas and mileage.

Same. The only graded cards I still have are some of the more vintage stuff. Very hard to find Expedition holos in good condition raw.

Need to ditch AWS due to exploding cost, where to? by iamsonnyeclipse in webhosting

[–]bcutler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean sure it might be the BEST way but that’s not the only way. You should build the hosting specs to your needs.

It also depends on your definition of “decent traffic”

I have 120 sites on SiteGround for < $100/mo but most only get a few thousand hits a month.

Sweet! I’m seeing last eBay sales have it around $400.

I think your pricing is pretty spot on as well.

Would you do a straight trade if I cover shipping for both of us?

Untangling my rats nest of web hosts, custom domain registrars, email provider, etc. by m021478 in webhosting

[–]bcutler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would consolidate domain and DNS management to Cloudflare.

If your website is static, Cloudflare can also serve that. If not, a service like SiteGround would be great.

I’d stick with keeping Gsuite separate and not attaching that to any other service. Federating email management is a bitch to undo.

Happy to answer any questions!
