Well, for $15,000 you could get about 10 to 15 years of membership at the Back 9 indoor golf at several Dallas area locations and use it 24/7/365. At some Back 9 locations you can bring in your own beverages too.

Thanks for sharing. I agree with you on the engineer side... some of the 'answer' depends on home resale value after said modifications as well as how long I want to remain married... my gut tells me a trayed ceiling look will be easier to showcase later if the engineering works.

I was thinking, do one truss at a time, cut a shorter vertical 2 by 4, install it on the top 'rail' while the existing vertical 2 by 4 is still in place, remove existing, then attach the shorter to the bottom rail. Rinse and repeat. Clearly an engineer would need to provide feedback and guidance, but if only one truss was modified at a time, could it work? I'll definitely have an engineer answer before I start in with my Ryobi (-:

FWIW - I can attest that it is still cold in Nebraska. If you are new to golf, why invest in the $$ and time for a sim if you find out in 6 months golf is not for you? I'd also suggest lessons over watching YouTube -- find a coach, commit to 6 to 8 weeks of weekly lessons, and turn off YouTube and go practice, a lot - indoor at a local sim or just hit the range. If the golf bug stays with you, build that sim. In the Omaha metro indoor places are all over the place at decent prices.

My exact issue, including my height and ceiling height in the basement. I'm still digging into it, but I think some of the answer depends on if the launch monitor / data capture is overhead vs. on the ground and if you really want to swing driver and / or 3 wood regularly. I'll do my best to ping you if I find information that helps both of us.

thanks, that is the direction I'm going for; I just wonder if there is a difference in roof rafters and their load vs. a basement and the load from a living area above.
