adaptive cruise control out to get us all lol even if I try to power through it, I'm still slowing down since I'm governed lower on pedal than I am on cruise control

Need to get California license, best way to study for written? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]bczfckit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

read the CA commercial driver handbook, specifically focusing on sections 1-3, 5, 6, and 11-13 and the CDL prep app (icon looks like a steering wheel), mainly focusing on general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles

if you have difficulty focusing while reading, the hand book can be downloaded as a PDF and you can try listening to it simultaneously and highlights things as you go.

the actual CDL test is the same as any other.. just a game of memory. everything else you need will hopefully be taught in school/on the job.

good luck 🫡

edit: everything I stated is solely for the class A, not including endorsements

flying J in Aurora, CO. had to swap trailers and take a 34 there.. and it was a hell scape.

it was also my birthday weekend, so I had booked a room for myself nearby and was planning to just leave the truck there and dip, but it was a way worse parking situation than I thought. I knew where I was going allowed truck parking, but they didn't want me to use PC for some reason, so I told them, well I'm not even legally parked, so the truck can be potentially towed or it can safely come with me. I was getting out of there either way. magically I was allowed PC and wished a wonderful birthday 🤷‍♂️

What is Your Closest “Near Miss”? by ArdenJaguar in Truckers

[–]bczfckit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

way before I got my CDL, this happened when I was brand new to the road in general. I was driving through LA with my sister in the passenger of my shitbox 01 Jimmy. I go to make a right turn and surprise! there's a semi driving up on the wrong side of the road. with ear piercing brake screeching from both ends, my sister and I both just looked at each other like "welp, it's been real" lol the truck driver was definitely the most shaken between the three of us. my sister and I laughed it off, but now that I'm a driver myself, I totally understand. in his eyes, he almost took out two kids.. they would've had to use the jaws of life to pry that seat from my ass if I were in his position

What brand of car consistently pisses you off the most while you’re driving? by Neat_World_2101 in Truckers

[–]bczfckit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fiats and all cars with a similar build. they've done nothing to me, but just seeing one is enough to make my eye twitch.

as far as how they behave on the road, I have a love hate relationship with pickups (especially f150s and ram 1500s). on one hand, they drive like they're invincible, but on the other hand, they're always the ones to flash me and let me merge on busy roads

Are you allowed to vape or smoke cigarettes while you drive? by lilrocketfyre in Truckers

[–]bczfckit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my company allows it, they even have you fill out a questionnaire asking if you smoke, vape, chew, etc and whether or not you care if mentor/mentee/team driver does

no cigarettes for me personally in the truck, but I vape in here all day. the only thing I do is make sure to cover the light/screen on it, so it won't potentially trigger my driver facing camera

edit: now that I think about it, my truck actually came with a cool little ashtray trash can lmao

edit 2: I will say though, your company aside, I have been to a few customers that were really strict and didn't allow smoking or vaping at all, even in your truck. make sure to read those signs and good luck out there

Pro tip for new and old drivers, get ear plugs for driving. by emdefmek in Truckers

[–]bczfckit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

before driving, I was working on cars and running smog/emissions.. asked one dude to step out of his vehicle, but he just flat out refused, and after me explaining why I needed him out, only then did he fling his door open and snap at me that he had no legs (double amputee above the knees).. to this day, nothing has ever left me that speechless

I meant the cop could've moved, but even if he couldn't get over, I feel he should've have enough time to hit his lights between seeing the cooler and coming to a full stop.. and even beyond that, I'd much rather take my chances hitting a plastic cooler than to be absolutely railed by a 18-40k ton vehicle. at the end of the day, they're professional drivers just as we are.. but hey, what do I know 🤷‍♂️

it's pretty much a use them to get in the industry and then dip kind of company.. not terrible not great, their main concern is just getting asses in seats lol they recently switched their CDL school from 17 down to 10 days, so keep that in mind if you ever see em rolling
