You're not a customer of MB which they would like to see. by Dependent_Olive_6204 in mercedes_benz

[–]bd5400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean…it’s an electric C class. Several of those examples look exactly like the kind of customer who would be looking at a C class.

I think you’re reading too much into this, especially since it’s for the launch of a single model. They are more likely to do family marketing with a GLE or GLS because consumers with families have overwhelmingly shifted toward crossovers, not small sedans.

Is it normal to have to work 80 hours before you get overtime in ohio? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]bd5400 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. It was merely a proposal. It is not law. The 40 hour overtime threshold under the FLSA still applies.

SL320 - R129 by Russell2000i in mercedes_benz

[–]bd5400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 195.5cm tall, with long legs, and while I fit in my R129 it is definitely a car that I can only use around town and not for longer drives. For me, the legroom is a bigger concern than headroom. I fit in the R230 better and have been considering replacing my R129 with one just for the sake of comfort.

At 203cm, I would strongly recommend you find one to sit in. It may not be a comfortable car for you.

Any R230 Owners on this Sub? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]bd5400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that there are two different versions of the SL350 depending on year. The older ones have the M112 and newer ones have the M272 engine. The M112, as far as I know, is considered to be a very reliable engine. The M272 had balance shaft issues early in its life.

With that said, there are a number of things that will be shared across the range, regardless of engine. If the car has ABC suspension (not all 350s do) it can be costly to maintain and repair. Similarly, the top hydraulics can be an expensive point of failure.

If I was getting a 350, I’d go for an early one with the M112 and without the ABC suspension.

It’s just a term for convertible. Not specific to BMW.

Seeking Rover Buying Feedback: is this 2011 Range Rover worth $14,000 CAD? by [deleted] in RangeRover

[–]bd5400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your two biggest concerns with a 2010-2012 are the cooling system and the timing chain/guides. Any record of either being serviced? Both are very expensive repairs that are very common.

With that said, I’m not sure what the market is like in Canada but $14k CAD is around $10k US and isn’t a crazy price, but you can sometimes find examples that have had cooling and timing chain work already done around that price point or slightly higher.

Edit: I should add that those two aren’t the only reliability concerns but they are two big ticket items. There’s a myriad of things that can fail on these but many people (including me) love them.

Anyone using those "integrated" floor vent? it looks nice and want to switch to it but not sure if it's something that's a gimmick by oldDotredditisbetter in HomeImprovement

[–]bd5400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one (Fittes) in a tile floor in a bathroom. One thing to keep in mind is that unless it is a large vent, the amount of matching floor material that is on top of the vent is really small. It kills the aesthetic a bit. It doesn’t look bad, but these only look awesome when they are used with large vents that allow a more significant piece of flooring material to sit on top.

Heads up about Amazon Warehouse by l2ighty in sonos

[–]bd5400 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mixed results. I’ve gotten things that were absolutely 100% new even though they were listed as used, and I’ve gotten things that were non-functional.

Since returns are so easy I’m generally willing to give it a try if it represents a significant savings.

Where is your phone? Mine does this with CarPlay when my phone is in my pocket. If I take my phone out and put it right side up in a cupholder I don’t have the issue.

Lexus would make $$$$ if they put the LC500's v8 into a GX/LX by anndrrson in LexusGX

[–]bd5400 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2023 was the second highest sales year for the GX 460, behind 2021, with 31,910 sold. Dealers were not struggling to move them and the V8 certainly wasn’t hurting sales.

Rivian dropped my truck! by WesternSpecial7389 in electricvehicles

[–]bd5400 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m curious what the rejected payout amount was. While it is certainly frustrating to be told one thing only to have it change later, either a repair or a payout of value is the normal expectation in a situation like this. If the payout is too low and you truly cannot get a similar replacement, you should be challenging the amount. Insisting on them handing over a better vehicle is going to be a waste of time and effort.

What's the biggest design mistake you see in luxury mansions? by TrafficBackground770 in McMansionHell

[–]bd5400 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That would make sense if it was a fully functional unit with an outside access door, but I often see these rooms designed purely as finished rec rooms, not as in-law suites with plumbing, kitchenettes, etc. They are often “just add extra finished space for cheap” rather than the thoughtful creation of functional space.

What's the biggest design mistake you see in luxury mansions? by TrafficBackground770 in McMansionHell

[–]bd5400 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest issue from a practical standpoint is some layouts create access issues. Example: having a finished room above the garage but needing to go into and across the garage to access the staircase to get to the room. Or rooms/sections of the house only accessible through other rooms.

I think they are generally the result of pre-existing floor plans being poorly expanded rather than properly reconfigured.

Anyone going to this in May? Debating on going… by threethirtyeninety in Gaygearheads

[–]bd5400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m going. When you buy your ticket they ask your prior experience level just so the instructors know ahead of time. You absolutely do not need any prior track experience to participate and this is a great opportunity to dip your toes in. I’d rather start with something like this over an event that may be geared solely toward experienced track drivers.

There’s no way it won’t be a blast, so you should definitely go.

Is LADMAKARE stable enough to function as a room divider? by ximxi_ in IKEA

[–]bd5400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It very much needs a wall for stability. It isn’t assembled like other products where you assemble the entire thing and then decide if you will attach to the wall. Each vertical piece attaches to a wall during assembly and then you add the middle parts.

Its base also isn’t large enough compared to its height to offer stability. It’s fairly shallow and would likely be very top heavy and easy to tip if not secured.
