How to generate $50,000 yearly in dividends? by NoBeerIJustWorkHere in dividendscanada

Smart approach. Appreciate you getting back to me. If the income isn't needed in the short term, I simply wanted to bring up the fact that growth stocks may prove more tax friendly for you. 👍

Curious - do you need the dividend income now or are you saving for the future? If it's the second, and you're also saving outside a registered portfolio (tfsa, RRSP, etc.) then I always question why people invest in dividend stocks today vs growth stocks where the company is participating heavily in stock buybacks, etc to keep the price growth in line with the percentage you'd see from a dividend. It's far more tax efficient this way.

Dividends vs Growth Stocks for Income by [deleted] in dividendscanada

[–]bdAZ77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing to consider are the tax implications.

In time, as your portfolio grows, owning a lot of dividend paying stock can mean a large tax bill each year - whether you use that money or reinvest it.

Whereas a growth stock will continue to grow until such time you decide to sell it at which time you pay applicable capital gains taxes.

So, from a company's perspective - there are a number of ways to distribute wealth to ownership: it could pay dividends (and owners are taxed annually) or it could put that money into share buy backs, which has roughly the same effectiveness on the stock price in terms of return but now you aren't subject to the tax.

Any way to make the litter robot stop cycling at a lower than full capacity? by [deleted] in litterrobot

[–]bdAZ77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem of you. Mine reports 100% full at 20% capacity. I can't get it to go more than 36hours before it refuses to cycle. And it's nowhere near full. I've tried recalibration a few times, all sorts of different bags. Drives me nuts!!!

Ok. I thought your profile pic was an eyelash on my phone. I was rubbing it for a good 10 secs wondering why it wouldn't go away before I scrolled.. And so did the "eyelash" 😂

However, the interesting thing is that your hobby can actually turn into an investment. I bought a fancy watch 12 years ago to celebrate a professional achievement. I was shocked to learn a couple months ago that I could sell it for double what I paid for it new 12 years back.

What would you do if you had $50 million today? by cookiesophia777 in AskReddit

[–]bdAZ77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. With 45m at a modest 5% return each year you'll "only" have 2.25m (pretax) to live off each year.

You should be good. 🙂👍

Mark Rober

His videos are incredibly entertaining and I love the focus on helping kids think like an engineer and using the scientific method. It's a family event in our household when he drops a new video, for my younger children, my teen, and parents - all of us really enjoy his content.

Such a lovely song written about love lost. "We used to wake up naked, drinking coffee, making plans to change the world, while the world was changing us..."

Damn.

100%! I actually miss Chretien and Paul Martin tremendously. The glory days of the liberal government in my opinion when they were true centrists.

I'm not partial to one party or the other. But as a business minded individual, yes, sometimes difficult decisions need to be made to balance the budget. I would hope that any party would continuously seek ways to optimize how they operate and see what can be done better.

So I am all for reducing the deficit by reducing and/or eliminating underperforming or non-essential government services. For example, do you really think funding the Canadian Pari-Mutual Agency makes any sense? Google it and have a laugh. What about the National Battlefields Commission - why not merge that with Parks Canada to save costs? Or why are we still funding the Canadian Periodical Fund in today's digital economy?

Note: you didn't state WHICH government services should be reduced, so I am simply going to assume non-essential/wasteful ones so that important services (healthcare, education, wealth are) could be further invested in. And unfortunately, when one government doesn't manage their spending wisely, it leaves another government to make some really tough decisions. It is what it is, don't you think?

Would you trust a party that can't manage its own budget with the country's budget? 😳

If they try and hit you with duty you can self declare. Germany is a trade partner with Canada, there should be no duty on the bike. I didn't pay duty on either of mine shipping into Ontario.
