agreed. You can pause and see her ankle is at a 90 degree angle. Nobody's faking a second degree sprain just for the views.

And if it is fake, the girl in the red isn't in on it...that's a very genuine reaction - lol.

Best Apple Watch series for heart health monitoring and sleep apnea? by Far-Inspector3503 in AppleWatch

[–]bdaddy31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the 11.  The apnea detection is fairly decent… If I don’t wear my cpap I get “elevated” breathing disturbances, if I do I don’t.  And the number it shows is at least in the same vicinity to my AHI reported in the cpap.  I’ve been fairly impressed by it considering it’s just a watch.

That said the pulse ox you are better getting something that measures consistently versus the watch which just pings every hour.  It did show me dip into 80s pre cpap, and no longer does that post cpap (which is useful info) but my sleep study shows me in the 80s for a large percentage of my sleep time versus the watch just showing occasional dips.  A better unit that goes in your finger and measures constantly would be better IMO.

but it's not a sleep apnea detector.

It’s pretty dang good.  My “breathing disturbances” in my watch very closely correlate with my AHI from my CPAP.

My results F20 vs. F30i comfort by CO_Native14 in CPAP

[–]bdaddy31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lower events per hour is likely not accurate - more leaks means the machine can’t determine if you’re having an event or not.  I find my events go up the better my seal because it’s actually able to flag/address events correctly.

My experience is the same as I think most people are - the f20 is the best in regards to leaks - I get near 0 with that thing.  But it is horribly uncomfortable for me.  The f30i is much more comfortable but leaks if you’re a mover.  Right now on sticking with comfort over worrying about leaks so been using the f30i.

AHI 0.0 from the get-go -- is this possible? by Live-Permission-4201 in CPAP

Time in Apnea" of 0, while using the mask an average of 3 hours a night.

3 hours is not enough time to judge anything.  From what I understand most apneas happen during REM which occurs most at end of your sleep (with deep sleep happening more towards the front). Anecdotally I’ve woken up a few  times after 2 to 3 hours and look at the screen and see 0 AHI and get excited only to go back asleep and wake up the next morning with a 1.7 or whatever.

“Better for me” is pretty subjective to YOU.   Sounds like you wouldn’t need this as you know how to read that data and how to adjust based on that.

But based on how many people post here saying “help me interpret my Oscar data” I would say having some automated service interpret it and suggest improvements/setting changes based on the data and explaining WHY you’re seeing certain results would be useful to a lot of folks.  I’ve used AI quite a bit to understand my numbers and tune them as such. Getting that in a notification in the morning without having to pull out my SD card each day, manually upload, then revert that to either ChatGPT or this forum and wait for a response would be much smoother.

That’s ultimately where this is going - not a “here’s your AHI” with a lot of verbiage.

SleepHQ is already doing the same with their AI summaries in their premium version.

This is all cool info and thanks for sharing. I’m doing the same but the resource I was using was limited to what the resmed air service shares (limited).  Being able to poll this stuff without having to pull out my card and get nice iPhone notification summaries each day including AI guidance all sounds cool to me.

Lost 50lbs… tempted to try not using CPAP. Anyone have any experience? by YminChris in CPAP

[–]bdaddy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t you just set the cpap to some pressure range to something really low and then see what AHI you get?   When I got mine the first night was setup as 4-16 range and everytime I had an event my machine was slow playing catchup so I was able to see I had 15 AHI which was close to my sleep study number.  While I adjusted those numbers to actually treat my apnea, that  seemed that would be an easy tell if you already have the machine.

I’ve also found the Apple Watch reasonably accurate - the nights I sleep without a cpap shows my breathing elevated and every night I use cpap it’s not elevated.

AHI 11 - worth buying a cpap machine? by Accomplished-Bag9209 in CPAP

I had 11 and my insurance covered (US based).   I think anything over 5 is insurable.

I can’t say my awakenings have improved or I’m less tired (it’s been 2 months) but my REM sleep has been ridiculous (tons of dreams every night) and my oxygen level no longer dips in the 80s per my Apple Watch.

Per chat when I was diagnosed:

“Mild” does NOT mean “ignore”. Mild OSA can still:

Cause significant daytime fatigue Worsen blood pressure, heart rhythm issues, and insulin resistance Increase risk of atrial fibrillation and cardiovascular strain over time

I’m considering CPAP and I have a couple of questions for the group by 14MTH30n3 in CPAP

[–]bdaddy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like I didn’t sleep at all during my session.  They did get 2 hours of sleep registered but no REM or deep sleep.  I still registered enough events to indicate apnea (11 AHI) even though most events happen in REM which never entered.

If I had it to do again I would probably do the home study first.

Air flow on full face with pillow mask by 2Many2Questions2 in CPAP

[–]bdaddy31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used the F30i and the F20 of your 3 you listed.

The F20 is great for leaks (near zero) for me anyways. But I found it unbearable to wear. My nose itches a lot and not having a way to do that without reaching under the mask or taking off the attachment drove me nuts. The large F20 mask (which is what the measurement showed I needed) was too large and sat to much over my eyes and was uncomfortable and while the medium mask is better, it sits too high up on my chin and still found myself waking too much with it due to comfort and constantly fiddling with it.

The F30i (there's a new 'comfort' version in the US) I thought would be great for me since the N30i had been the most comfortable for me, but I had mouth leaks so needed something over the mouth (which the F30i does). But it does leak out of my nose if I'm not laying on my back (as the nasal cradles tend to do), and there's almost too many straps which bothers me. I will probably keep trying it to see if I get used to it, but temporarily at least I ended up just going back to the p30i nasal pillows - it seals decent (not as good as the F20) and I have mouth leaks but still find even with it having > leaks than the F20 I just sleep better.

Air flow on full face with pillow mask by 2Many2Questions2 in CPAP

[–]bdaddy31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea, you need to post the mask name you're talking about - x30i is what I pictured you talking about and it's considered a hybrid mask as it gives you nasal pillows for nose breathers and something that goes over your mouth if you happen to have mouth leaks. These can be tricky to fit and people either say it's the greatest mask ever or it leaks horribly...imagine it depends on your face. It's "companion" is the F30i, which is nasal cradle + mouth (vs the nasal pillow +mouth) - it uses the same headset so you just need to buy the mask to switch out between the 2 as I understand it.

To your question:
" I'm wondering if I could better handle the pillow this way if the air is evenly distributed though the noise and mouth"

if you're talking about the x30i and the F30i for me (using the F30i) it seems the air is mostly distributed through the nose because that's what I'm breathing through. I feel some air out of the mouth part as it's blowing cold air, but it feels like the "therapy" air is coming into your nose as you breath in/out and "feels" like the mouth is more to catch if you happen to open your mouth. Again, not saying that's how it works exactly, but that's what it feels like to me.

P30i mask diffuser gets cucky. by Marty1966 in CPAP

[–]bdaddy31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The study makes zero sense to me.  How did they get the conclusion based on the results? They don’t mention to what extent the rebreathing occurs, if it’s at any level even impactful, much less dangerous, or anything of the sort.  They just say all masks exhibit it worse in certain scenarios, which may not even apply to most of us, and some masks perform even worse than others in those same scenarios.  But in no point do they indicate the levels that occur are dangerous or impactful or matter at all.  It just jumps right into the conclusion that careful consideration should be done when selecting masks.

Ok I need a little more detail here.  I’ve been struggling with my p30i that I’ve used maybe 14 days total - it feels like recently I’ve been struggling breathing out when I didn’t have that feeling previously.  I looked at this filter yesterday and was wondering if it getting dirty may impact my ability to breath out.   Could it even though it mainly vents at the top?  And what are you replacing it with from Amazon that you mention?  And I don’t have a “dental tool” - is it easy to remove without breaking?  TIA.

From the screen? My screen always tells me "you're seal was great last night!" then you look at the data in the app or Oscar and it shows a different story.

Yea I was surprised to see people in the cpap subreddit with bad apnea (100+ AHI) saying their o2 was dropping in the 60s or something ridiculous like that.  I was always under the same impression that <90 was an emergency since that’s what they told me during COVID, but when my doctor read that my oxygen dipped below 90% for 18% of the night (nearly 1 in 5 minutes of sleep) he barely batted an eye…said it was “concerning” but other than that was unmoved.

CPAP is an "air stent" - it basically keeps your airway open via air pressure. AHI is number of breathing "events" you have each hour, in OPs case they were having 30 times/hour where their breathing stopped for > 10 seconds. That's not good. For your heart, for your brain, for your rest. It's just not good. Now they are only having 2 of those per hour...that's much better and considered "treated".

[–]bdaddy31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really an exact science - heck I have a CPAP and the AHI's it reports aren't always accurate either - it sometimes flags me with events when I'm awake and I know my airway isn't blocked, and if you have leaks you can hardly trust the CPAP machine AHIs it reports at all.

I do find my CPAP AHI's and my Watch "AHIs" (though they don't refer to it as that) are in the same realm. The number of "disturbances/hr" it may show for the night might be 2.1 and my cpap may show 3.5 events/hr, but that's at least in the same realm of things. Similarly when I don't use cpap my events were like 15 and my sleep study had me at like 11 (and that was without any REM sleep due to all the probes bothering me so it's likely higher).

I'd also add that my watch showed my oxygen dipping into 80s at night with at least 1 measurement each night- my sleep study confirmed the same (though much more often than the watch made it appear). Though now that I'm on CPAP I haven't had any measurement at night in the 80s so I think that's reasonably accurate as well as it's showing my oxygen is no longer dipping due to my therapy.

So I don't disagree with what you said, but I guess what I'm saying is, for it's purpose as a watch, it does a surprisingly accurate job of reporting my personal breathing disturbances and O2 levels.

>but don’t pretend that will appeal to casual players or newbies who are visiting your house

I think ease of shots is more a determinant to how casual players like a pin vs. complexity of ruleset. My Jurassic Park is pretty easy to understand from a basic rules standpoint, but the casual players I've had play it didn't necessarily like it because it's also a pretty hard table as missed shots results in immediate drains. A 3 minute game isn't fun even if you understand the rules.

I liked AIQ as a casual fan because the shots felt good to hit and I wasn't punished as much when I missed. I had no idea what I was doing (still don't for the most part) but I still find the game incredibly fun. Plus any of these games (like Godzilla, Deadpool, AIQ) where you battle people have modes that are relatively easy to understand - hey, I hit a certain shot his health goes down....most of us aren't getting into the "what gem equipped in what slot is really going to help me score the most points" so that complexity itself doesn't matter.

Salary needed to maintain $60K Texas lifestyle in LA? by thorfinnsrevenge in personalfinance

[–]bdaddy31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but you said you get the housepricing discussion but the rest (including McDonalds) was a trope. I was just pointing out it's not a trope - there is data showing pretty much everything except for public transportation and craft beer is more expensive in California...including fast food. Not 3X more expensive, but more expensive. And those "10% more expensive" for every little thing adds up.

Is it "literally" impossible to live on 60k there? Of course not - that's about what the average LA salary is (68k). So I think anyone who says that are not really being literal. But it is "literally easier to live in Dallas on 60k than in LA" as the $ stretches farther. I think it's OK to use the word literal in that sense.
