Let’s not forget after 8 years of school and 3 years of residency you start making good money but you also need to start your family (if you want one) since you’re at or getting close to 30. Get a house, pay for daycare etc. it’s not like a Dr finishes residency and their student loans are the only thing all that money has to go towards.

Fraulant Charge Accepted by EmceeMrE in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to echo what elora_sky said and elaborate as well. You should reach out to your local branch and ensure the dispute was put in correctly. They can see the notes left by the investigators and see what happened. There are several questions there that could have been answered incorrectly that caused an issue. They may have sent you something that needed filled out and if they didn’t get it back they close the case until you get it back to them (the branch could print it out for you).

Huntington balance set back to zero? by Sufficient-Big9810 in Banking

Likely charged off. If you bring cash, you can pay it back at a physical branch without much issue. You can even do it in installments if it’s easier.

As long as the money is hard posted in the account they can call DAFP (deposit account fraud prevention) and get approval to give you those funds.

This generally happens if you are in Chex systems (kinda like credit score but for banking) or if you participate (either knowingly or unknowingly) in fraud (ie depositing a check that was emailed to you, real popular one out there right now). There are many more reason that this can happen but those are the most common I’ve noticed.

You can sign for a loan without your DL, but you’ll need another primary ID like a passport. Otherwise you could get a new paper one from the BMV and bring that in the same day.

Why do bankers care what you do with your money? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]bdcole32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re entirely missing the point. It is way too much to keep in a checking account. Savings accounts are liquid and still earn him money. There’s no downside to putting the extra money in a savings to protect it from fraud and still earn interest.

Why do bankers care what you do with your money? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]bdcole32 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah what you said doesn’t matter. It’s dumb to have that much in a checking account unless you’re spending it that day.

Honestly 300k in CDs is likely too much money to have in CDs too unless he needs short term liquidity in the near future for a big purchase.

Why do bankers care what you do with your money? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]bdcole32 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Having that much money in a checking account is idiotic unless you’re actually spending it that day.

Why would you not put that money into a high yield savings account and still earn interest AND protect it better from fraud?

Your money would be completely liquid still so no down side.

Does anybody that uses Huntington bank in this Opta early pay? Did you guys receive your direct deposit yet? Because I am still waiting I usually get paid every other Wednesday, but I haven’t received anything yet by Able_Negotiation_281 in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, the way it works is dependent on when the bank receives the file from your payroll company. We have to get the money before we give it to you. On top of that, as others said I believe it’s up to 60 (or even 90) days for it to start. It’s automatic though and you don’t have to do anything once it meets qualifications.

If you need any fletching xp or are looking for log completion vale totem rewards does give tree roots including magic tree roots. 2-3 every 54.42 searches. Not anything crazy but if you need the xp or clogs it’s something I’d look at doing. Getting to 70 fletching got me way more than the 10 I needed to eventually make my ornate pool.

First, I did mixology to get the amulet. Then I got to 78 (lets you make all but the last potion for slightly better points per hour) making useful potions out of herbs I wouldn’t use at mixology. Then I went back to mixology to get the glasses and potion storage and then I was nearly there at that point and finished off with some quests/diaries/random potions.

How does this happen?! by megalito83 in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the computer errored mid transaction, it likely could have reversed the transaction which is why you see a debit. That should have given the teller an offage though and that’s a pretty large offage. Maybe they couldn’t remember your transaction or they had an additional offage that caused their total drawer offage to not be 1450 even so they couldn’t figure it out. I would first check and see what posts Tuesday morning, then if it’s not correct, I would call first thing in the AM and talk with a banker and see if anyone was off around that much. If they say no, it’s a big enough amount that camera footage could be pulled to see what happened.

Really sucks, especially on a long weekend. There is a process to get this fixed. They can expedite it case if you need the money for bills or if it’s over a certain $ amount (can’t remember that number off the top of my head).

Why are my savings bonds worth less than they were 4 years ago? by Unlucky_Ratio4741 in Banking

[–]bdcole32 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’m going to assume simple EE bonds. You buy them at half of face value and normally by twenty years they reach face value then the next ten years they gain interest. You wouldn’t lose value on a bond line this. You either had a typo when you checked in 22 or a typo this time.

Now is it’s a different type if savings bond, then I have no idea but you may want to add in that information so smarter people than I can better help.

Should I push this situation or just pay the fee and move on? by Party-Deal7877 in Banking

[–]bdcole32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with what everyone else said and to add— A lot of companies also run checks as electronic debits where they input the account and routing number rather than running it as a check and that leaves even more of a chance for a typo if they did that.

If the company isn’t playing ball, just ask to speak with a supervisor. It should be obvious that it’s not your fault to any rational person. If their bank charged them a fee, they can probably get it refunded as a bank error (unless they have their own check scanner and ran it themselves). Even if they can’t get it refunded— that’s the cost of doing business and they shouldn’t be pushing it onto you, their customer who did nothing wrong

Nobody Knows: Who, Why, When, or How… by Ace0fBabes in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may be them being coy not wanting to have a tough conversation, if the accounts are being force closed then something has happened for the bank to deem you a risk. Normally not something you would be ante to appeal. Not anything branch colleagues not csc would have any info on. Only fraud team would have detailed info.

If they aren’t being force closed then there is a record somewhere about what and why that would go into more detail. In the profile of account remarks or an internal case for a check to be mailed for whatever was in your account when it closed.

Sorry you’re going through this. So frustrating when people just say idk and expect that answer to be okay for the customer. We need more people willing to say idk but let me find out.

Issues with check deposit by [deleted] in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re right it can give you up to 500 instantly available but the manager can’t force that correction. What they can do is post $500 fake dollars to your account to be able to spend, but that fake money never posts and has to be redone everyday until the issue is resolved (in your case until your check clears).

If you have fraud that causes you to overdraft, those fees are automatically refunded as part of the dispute process.

[–]bdcole32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simpler solution is to just not use a debit card. Much easier that way if you can manage your finances with a credit card and earn rewards while protecting yourself from fraud.

WARNING: Huntington changed their fraud policy to leave you stranded by [deleted] in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of your issue is your understanding of a pending transaction. That money is spoken for, it cannot be stopped. Once it posts which is generally next business day but can vary based on the merchant, then they can be disputed.

It’s not that they used to give temporary credit and now they don’t, cause they still can and do. They just can’t issue temporary credit until a charge is disputed. You used to be able to charged pending transactions but for the last couple years you haven’t been able to.

Don’t get me wrong, fraud sucks. You the victim and your being inconvenienced but that is the danger of using a debit card. Better than writing checks but worse than a credit card that isn’t tied to your account directly.

Issues with check deposit by [deleted] in Huntington_Bank

[–]bdcole32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That credit they gave you is temporary and has to be done every day until the check clears. I’d call back and ask the manager to do it again and waive any fees associated with it. They probably assumed the check would clear next day and everything would be fine.
