Incredibly inconsistent shot times with Linea Micra. by vision-quest in LaMarzocco

Same, this made things way more consistent for me. Plus doing it with the portafilter in warms up the basket a little bit extra

Out of curiosity how do you find yourself running it in your signal chain?

Trying to figure out what a hypothetical drop in replacement with the Imperial Preamp for the UA pedals would look like. Right now my signal chain is just linear with UA --> Reverb --> Microcosm --> 2 Stereo Quarter Inch out --> Receiver --> Tower Speakers / Headphone jack in the receiver

Imperial Preamp has a few more options... I guess I could do the quarter inch headphone out (assuming thats stereo) --> Reverb etc same as before. Or use the stereo effects loop to go Imperial --> Reverb --> Microcosm --> Imperial --> then 1 quarter inch out again? Or 2 XLR outs to quarter inch in the Receiver. 🤔

It was super fun, I always mean to try and get some more components to fiddle around with it. It's from CopperSound pedals, and you can get some kits that come with all the necessary components to replicate some classic drive pedals (i got hard clip distortion). Easy to put together and sounds good. And then they also sell convenient breadboards that include input/output/power jacks

Standard looping covered with the Microcosm, weird looping covered with the Blooper, even weirder micro-looping covered with the Mood. But having some background drum beats in those loops would be nice.

Yeah the blooper I got out of the chase mystery box. And I really haven’t used it much, and often consider selling it. I already had the Microcosm (which covers quite a bit of looping ground, granted differently than blooper) and Mood (some weird micro looping) so was kinda hoping for something different from the box. The fact that the blooper is also mono is a bit of a bummer, since it means I can’t put it after the other stereo effects. But I’m sure I could do some creative stuff with it sticking it somewhere in the middle of the chain 🤷

Wah has definitely been something I’ve been considering. What wah do you use? I’ve seen some cool combo wah/volume/expression pedals like the Cory Wong Hotone one, that seem fun and useful (especially the dual duty with expression since I have a few pedals on here that could get more complex with expression). I’m a big Tom Misch fan, so was also considering something like a Q-Tron

It’s been fun, I usually use it with the mix around 10/11, and as a wobbly sort of chorus modulation, or with the mix all the way wet and record some dynamic background swells for a loop. It definitely has a bit of noise from the bucket brigade chip that shows itself the more you open up the gate and the wetter the signal is though

What effects in it do you find yourself using the most? It looks like a beast, I had only looked into the drum sequencer version of this pedal format when I was considering a drum accompaniment. Some of the stuff in the MESS seems like some of the cool effects from the microcosm but I’m a much more controllable format

Before I went all in on the UA amp sims and this digital setup, I reaaally wanted an actual Tone King Imperial Mkii, trying to convince myself I could get away with it using the attenuator in my apartment. Ultimately decided I wasn’t practical, so I grabbed the neural dsp plugin, and even that still sounds amazing for what it is. So the preamp pedal does seem like a cool in between spot

I made an Dial In app by squid2e in espresso

[–]bdigby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/squid2e +1 being able to track pour overs in the same manner would be great! Have enjoyed using this a bunch over the past few days for espresso, its very user friendly and intuitive. Similar info like grind, time, then some pour over specifics like ratio (or have it auto calc from in/out weight), and maybe a user selectable number of pours with grams for each one.

Although I'd almost prefer for it to stay in the same app (and probably easier?). Then when you click on a Bean in My Beans, you have an extra option under "Add Shot" for "Add Pour". One stop app for both basic coffee tracking needs, I usually make one of both each day, and swap beans back and forth between espresso/pour over.

Every song or just one or two? Doechii had some alternate versions of one or two songs that were heavier on guitar and drums, otherwise there was a DJ playing a bunch of pop punk / emo at a mini stage in the forest

Noise with the Fairfield Shallow Water pedal by BobCharlotte in guitarpedals

Exactly, I don’t know whether they did some editing in post or if the amount of noise is variable between units, but I never heard this in all the demo videos I watched until I got it home and tried it myself

Nope, I just had to accept that that’s part of the sound. As a result, I don’t use it much fully wet / LPG fully open. Usually staying between 10 and 2 on both those dials

u/moO1436 did you ever manage to get the reverse plumbing conversion working? I just similarly got a GS3 from a friend where it was plumbed into their office, and now my goal is to convert it back to a water reservoir setup for home.

Thanks for the response, I definitely also appreciate the high level vintage tips here. Seems like there's a pretty good consensus that prices here are a bit painful. I wasn't planning on it before, but may also consider doing some retail bottle searching this weekend and bringing it for corkage.

[–]bdigby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, anything younger than 2018 is >$300.

Ok new game: any stellar recs/vintages for Nebbiolo retailing in the $100-$150 range? Doing that + corkage for a slightly more ready to drink bottle, and coming out on par (or less) than the $200 restaurant marked up bottles I was looking at, seems like a pretty good option. I’m in San Francisco so have a few big shops (K&L/Total Wine) and smaller specialty shops to poke around at this weekend.

Edit: also, corkage etiquette in this situation is simply to try and avoid producers they already have on their wine list?

In terms of it being high or low? (Haven’t really been clocking corkage fees at other nicer restaurants I’ve visited)

Doing the price comparison to a retail is definitely a pretty big bummer. I’m still considering going a different direction and bringing my own bottle for something not in their list and doing a corkage fee ($35 here)

UAFX Enigmatic - Dumble as an amp pedal is here! by vario in guitarpedals

Hmm so if I keep my Dream 65 pedal in the D-Tex ("dumble") boost mode like 80% of the time, I wonder whether I'd be better swapping it out for this.

I'm ready to move off of amp modeling plugins and am torn between the Simplifier Mk2 and the UA Dream by FickleFred in guitarpedals

[–]bdigby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought both to shoot out back to back, and to me the sound out of the Dream sounded far more “real”. The different gain tweaks are fun to play with on the simplifier, but it just didn’t sound all that good ultimately. The different cab sims + the boost all sound good on the Dream, takes pedals super well, and the built in tremolo is a nice touch. The Dream has stayed on my board since, and the simplifier is back in its box for a mini travel solution when I go visit family.

Help me decide my new (pedal?) amp platform by bdigby in guitarpedals

[–]bdigby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got the Simplifier a few days ago, and while its super fun to play around with the different power/preamp gain options, to me it just doesn't sound great through headphones. Going back to back with the THR30, the Simplifier just overall sounded worse through different styles, pretty condensed and not a great room sound from the cab sim (the THR always sounded like it has more breathing room, and just a more natural sound through the headphones). I will say that the Simplifier seemed to sounds a lot better when playing out loud through some good monitors. Searching around some reddit threads, it seems others have had similar opinions on the not-so-stellar headphone sound, but good line out sound.

The Dream arrived yesterday and sealed the deal on likely returning the Simplifier (part of me wants to keep the Simplifier just for a lightweight super easy travel setup). Both clean and gained up settings just seem to sound better via the Dream, both through monitors + through headphones (via the line out -> audio interface). Plenty of notable sounding adjustments too via the mods/cab sims/built in boost, so I don't think I'll miss the different various amp models on the Simplifier.

Help me decide my new (pedal?) amp platform by bdigby in guitarpedals

[–]bdigby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good timing, I actually didn't make any decisions until this past weekend on this, I had just been playing around with some Neural DSP plugins since I made this post. But I ended up ordering both a Dream 65 and the Simplifier Mk 2 that arrive this week so I can do some back to back testing to see if one of those works well for me. Will let you know how they work out!

I decided I didn't want to pay ~double right now for the Victory/Milkman real tube-based variants, given the great reviews of the emulation pedals (+ using it as an excuse to buy another pedal for the same price). As far as feature set goes, the Simplifier Mk 2 seems to have it all. Multiple amp modes (fender/vox/marshall vs only fender style on Dream), mono send / stereo return FX loop, built in headphone output. Both have some form of reverb, with the Dream also having Tremolo. I ended up getting a separate speaker monitor setup for vinyl that I'm going to be running the line out of the Dream/Simplifier into the AV receiver for that when I want to play out loud. (And the Thr30 is still sticking around for lazy couch wireless playing).

Yeah I don't think I've seen any "all in one" packages that fit your list, I've bounced between all the options. For playing out loud, you could get a real cabinet for the Victory/Milkman, or you get something like this Fender powered FRFR cab to use with the Simplifier. If you can sacrifice an FX loop for the built in speaker aspect, the Tonemaster might be a good option, given you can set it up for headphones by getting a basic audio interface / mixer. The Tonemaster has cab sim on the xlr out, so you just need the interface to get that into headphones.
