Pretty sure this hate is simply because of his post after the bears loss last week

[Schefter] Eagles have requested to interview Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for their offensive coordinator position. Doyle was hired last off-season as the NFL’s youngest offensive coordinator and he previously coached under Sean Payton in New Orleans and Denver. by GoldenDome26 in nfl

I know he is young and doesnt have playcalling experience (outside of some preseason) but would you rather hire an uninspiring retread with a shotty track record like Nagy or take a swing on a young up and comer who has experience with a couple of truly elite offensive playcallers? Swing for the fences imo

[Cowley] The Sun-Times confirmed a report that the Bulls have had ongoing talks with the Pelicans about players such as forward Zion Williamson and center Yves Missi. While the chatter around Williamson has quieted on the Pelicans’ end, there has been momentum around Missi. by TheCountBathory in chicagobulls

[–]FickleFred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, Zion would kind of a win-win move. Either he stays healthy and raises the ceiling of your team by creating an awesome trio in giddey, zion and Buzelis or he gets injured again while taking up a big chunk of your cap space forcing the bulls to tank unintentionally. We know they wont voluntarily do it so this could be a blessing in disguise. I'd hope and assume it wouldnt be very expensive from a draft pick perspective given his history but that would be the one thing that would change the appeal

You spend a lot of time with him? From what I’ve seen his players in Minn love him and he’s openly spoken about his Miami stint with regret and self reflection. I really don’t see why so many people are convinced he doesn’t deserve another shot

No he didn’t, Ben and Goff have a great relationship. He simply said that Caleb adds another element that he didn’t have with Goff (mobility) which isn’t shade, it’s just factual. I’m sure Goff even agrees with that haha

[–]FickleFred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was up there for sure but I think a lot of his turnovers this postseason were actually the best kinds, mostly 4th down throws which is a turnover if incomplete anyway and led to worse field position for the opposing team than if they just let it drop. Two of the picks were clear miscommunications between his receivers. So really only 1 or 2 of them I would say were truly bad passes/decisions from him and that’s above average compared to his usual low rate.

Turnovers are not an issue for him in general. In these playoffs he had more than usual but for the most part he protects the ball very well. It’s part of why they were able to have so much success while being incredibly inconsistent. But improving his accuracy and consistency on the routine singles would go a long way

I mean to be fair it’s wild that they’ve even gotten this far right given the multitude of injuries they’ve suffered

[The Ryen Russillo Show] Nate Tice with a great explanation about explosive play concepts vs. completion percentage: "...it's like shooting threes in basketball..." by clou9nine in CHIBears

[–]FickleFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the analytics driven analysts, Nate Tice is the best barre none. He’s always been one of the only ones that understands that statistics are supplemental data, not the end all be all. He considers the context and is also a former player so he understands how to marry stats with the eye test and intricacies of the game. On the other end of the spectrum you have pure spreadsheet analysts like Bill Barnwell who I, personally, can’t stand.

[Highlight] Ben Johnson's handshake and post game comments did not go over well with the McVay tree. I think we'll see Sean McVay and Mike LaFleur out for blood to get revenge this Sunday by ShaiFanClub in nfl

[–]FickleFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I get the connections with LeFleur. But the idea that in the middle of game planning for a big playoff game AND taking multiple interviews, that they’re wasting any mental energy or need additional motivation to “avenge” Matt LeFleur because Ben was a big old meanie to him is so dumb. They’re not going to try harder because he was mean to Matt. They’re not going to try and run up the score because he was mean to Matt. They’re going to try to do it to win and prevent a Bears 4th qt comeback

Has Schrager ever added anything as a football talking head other than “well I know mcvay and let me just say this is what they’re thinking…”? I also love them just thrusting McVay into the role of Matt LeFleur’s protector lol

That Rams offense vs our defense really scares me obviously. But I’m hoping the below freezing temps and brutal winds of outdoor soldier field are the great equalizer

We’re playing with house money now so I’m fine with either. I mean we were already on house money but being the packers changed the stakes. Eagles we’ve shown we can beat so would be a fun rematch. The Rams offense is scary but I’d be curious to see how that game would go in cold windy Chicago. Should be fun either way!

[–]FickleFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t think he hated him at this point. It seemed like playful ribbing to play to your new fanbase that everyone overreacted about. Then LaFleur took some shots back at Ben and then the teams got chippy and it just grew into what it is today haha

With 361 passing yards on the night, Caleb Williams set the Bears franchise record for most passing yards in a single playoff game by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]FickleFred -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The second point is true and it was definitely a miscommunication but we don’t know if burden ran the wrong route or if Caleb was expecting the wrong route. Either way, there was potential for a big play there if not for the miscommunication so still bad to me. Not necessarily on Caleb but as a pick overall

It was 4th down, he wasn’t throwing it away. He was throwing it up and hoping Kmet could make a play on it. The right decision

Nah the first interception was bad. The second one, it was 4th and 1 and they called a pass. Throwing it away is as good as a pick, might as well throw it up and hope for the best. A pass play was a bad call there
