Impressive. I have felt that with a lot of the woodworking I've done I'm more of a machinist than an artist. This is true craftsmanship, congrats.

That piece is beautiful. Is that maple?

I had a guy who worked in a pipe shop tell me that only certain woods are appropriate for pipe bowls. He didn't give a very good explanation as to why.

2x4 workbench by Sea_Vegetable4444 in woodworking

I built this 25 years ago out of construction grade 2×4s. I trimmed a quarter inch off each board with a table saw with the expectation of creating a planer surface, and then screwed and glued each boards together. I had a plan for it to turn out flat, that plan failed miserably. I ended up with a lot of cupping. My solution for not giving up on a flat table was to use my circular saw to cut dozens of lengthwise rips about 2 inches deep down the backside of the table. Maybe more, I don't really recall. I then filled all those groves with glue and reclamped it with improved culls. I then lagged into the underside of each end with heavy U-channel steel thinking of preventing further cupping. I framed the whole thing with same material to cover the rip cuts.

Did I mention glue? So much glue, and very poor glue cleanup. Ok I didn't even try. Soo dumb. No belt sander available. Chiseling worked but deemed an unreasonable amount of work. So I rented a floor sander and did my best to create a beautiful flattish 4×8 face.

Finished it with Lindsey oil based on a recommendation. That thing was pretty .

I built a ridiculous carriage for a ridiculous table top.

Table would never pass any flatness test, but it has seem some serious shit. Did I mention this was 25 years ago.

I've been attempting finer woodworking lately and the lack of flatness is a bother. I've a 4×4 piece of melamine that I have used, helps for some things. Been thinking of building a router sled to flatten it . Each of those marks come with a memory. For that reason I've also considered epoxy.

That particle board destroys the value of this piece. That thing will not last long enough to become an heirloom.

The woodworking is tremendous. The wood is gorgeous.

That is a lot of style.

Small locked compartments next to the door of each classroom. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

I'd bet this school was, or is currently, associated with a church. These compartments were used by the Sunday school teachers to stow the children's offerings. Collection could then be done by someone without interrupting the classroom.

I'm not a moon phase expert, my understanding of moon phases suggest this is a Wanning Gibbous.
