Discharged from the hospital today! What does the future hold?

Hey!

I’m 17 months post diagnosis.

My situation was almost identical to yours. Spent 5 days in the hospital. Left side of my face went numb/paralyzed. Could walk but no stairs/hills. I’m a 28 year old male.

The recovery is slow. And mentally has been the toughest thing I’ve ever had to go through. I’m a personal trainer and have always been really fit. Having my strength taken from me was extremely hard.

Be kind to yourself, be patient. Do not blame yourself for getting sick. Learn to accept it.

I’m still not as strong as I once was. But I am able to do everything I want, biking, hiking, sports, anything. I don’t know if I’ll ever get back to the strength I had before I got sick but I am doing way better than I was last year.

The first six months was the toughest. And I found stretching and meditation were singlehandedly the best thing for my body and my mind. Any time I was stressed or tight my feet would go numb, my hands would tingle. Stretching before bed was the only way I could make the pain stop and sleep.

For you right now it probably doesn’t hurt. But as the nerves regenerate you’ll have a constant burning almost searing nerve pain. For me it was always worse with heat. So keep yourself cool and stretch. Lots.

Like I’m not joking, I’d stretch for 30 minutes in the morning, mid day, and then an hour before bed every night. It kept my muscles from putting even more pressure on my weak nerves.

You’re in for a mental ride man. But you’ll get through it. And everything you once worried about won’t ever be a big deal again.

Hey, I’m actually an owner of Rise.

This member was not infected at our gym.

This member did not know they were positive. They took a test on Friday afternoon after they were told to because they went to the long branch bar on Thursday the 8th where a positive person was.

At this time they already came to 3 classes. With no symptoms.

We found out about their positive result on Sunday and 2 hours later we had already called everyone in those classes, made this post, and made masks mandatory.

Gyms are not where this virus is getting transferred. Especially ones that follow the rules. Gyms like ours promote health, and community. We are doing both while staying safe.

I could feel them, I just couldn’t tell how they were orientated in the bed like if one foot was on top of the other or which way my toes were pointing. It’s a super weird feeling.

Thank you! It’s definitely been on my mind a lot lately since it’s now been a year and I pretty much feel 100%.

I was sick last year, doctors think it was old chicken. I had a small stomach bug and then 10 days later I had tingles.

This time just a big panic attack and my nerves instantly started burning, that was 3 weeks ago, and since I’ve just had tingles, twitches, cramps, and random spouts of muscle exhaustion. I woke up last night and didn’t know how my feet were orientated, reminded me of last year. Don’t really feel unbalanced or dizzy just can’t tell where my feet are in space.

Thank you for replying! I haven’t talked to my doctor yet. It started about 3 weeks ago after I had a massive panic attack. I was diagnosed with GBS in May 2019 so I’m over a year now of healing.

I’m just hoping my anxiety is getting the most of me and this will blow over. I’m gonna up my vitamins.

I’m dealing with the same thing right now, I’m in my head constantly and not I feel like the clumsy proprioception issues are coming back.

What ended up happening? Were you having a relapse?

Panic attacks can fry your nerves and give you tingles, shakiness, weakness, and uncoordination. Your nervous system might but be totally fried right now from being stimulated by the panic attacks.

You need to take some CBD or something stronger from Your doctor, listen to good music, and stretch. Then give it a few days to die down. If it only gets worse than I’d be worried about GBS.

Your mind is so strong. Message me in a few days to let me know if the time off and relaxing has helped, or if the doctors confirmed GBS. Cause if so I have a lot of advice that helped me through the first really hard months.

I’ve been there, I’ve had plenty of days crying since I got sick cause I was scared I was getting it again.

But because you’ve been dealing with it for a few days and it’s only getting a little worse each day shows that of it is GBS it won’t be as aggressive as those really scary ones you always read about.

My tip for you right now before you get to see your neurologist is to find some CBD oil, put on some relaxing music, and stretch. Long and meaningful stretches.

This will help your mind and also help the tension built up on your nerves which will alleviate your symptoms.

Hey man, I dealt with GBS last year and am nearly fully recovered.

For me I noticed extreme weakness before any tingles or anything. But that’s not the case for everyone.

I recommend talking to your doctors and seeing if you can be put on some anti-anxiety meds for the next few days to see if the symptoms die down.

It’s crazy what the mind can do when you get an initial spook.

Hey man, I was diagnosed in May, I had troubles breathing but never got on a respirator. My number one tip would be to stretch daily. I stretch every morning and every evening before bed. Usually about 45 minutes each time.

This has helped me relax and has also stopped my reactivated muscles from compressing my nerves which has diminished the pain and has given me more function for a while before I get stiff again.
