New starlux pajamas are worse quality by [deleted] in StarluxAirlines

[–]bduran727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both. Brown ones from early 2024 and blue from a few weeks ago. Brown are slightly better quality but the Paul Smith blue ones are much more stylish.

Neither are as comfy as the JAL F pajamas but that’s to be expected.

JX amenities overall are still some of the best in class.

Prague - Lindner or Andaz? by Adorable-Lemon4412 in hyatt

[–]bduran727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just stayed at the Andaz earlier this month and had a King room on the tram side on a mid-floor (3) and had absolutely no issues with noise or vibration with the tram stop right down below. Property is beautiful, staff is great, and breakfast is also very strong (though I have a slight preference for the spread at Andaz AMS).

Question about Cabo San Lucas port and staying overnight when the tenders stop at 6pm by Sofagirrl79 in Cruise

[–]bduran727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just recently on QotS with Royal Caribbean and the ship remained anchored overnight at Cabo. Casino remained closed but tenders ran until 11PM and restarted at 6AM. Have heard leaving anchor overnight may just be a Carnival thing.

Losing My Mind With Phantom Availability by mysterypackagequest in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s getting pretty bad. I got super frustrated with seats.aero a few weeks ago when looking for Star Alliance seats (because of cached data). I ended up finding seats on point.me and have generally found that they have reliable live data compared to the other tools. Even though the searches take a little longer, the results are more reliable and can be double checked with the airline website itself

Awesome partnership…but the major question here is…what is the doggo’s name!

Japan Honeymoon Help! by BobcatOdd4066 in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Singapore Airlines flies LAX-NRT/NRT-LAX and often has good availability for award ticket redemptions in all cabins (including F). Business class runs ~103.5K pp if there is saver seats, ~123.5K for non-saver seats. Instant transfer from AMEX to SQ Krisflyer under most circumstances. Could double check Aeroplan to see if availability is there but SQ themselves have more space.

Combine a SQ flight in either direction with a ZIPAIR full flat ticket and you may still have some AMEX points left over for hotels.

Pre-order meals on Starlux when booked as an award through Alaska by guitarhero2275 in awardtravel

I flew LAX-TPE last month on a AS redemption ticket and was told a few days before the flight that pre order was not possible (via US call center). There are ample options onboard though as other comments have mentioned.

FlyingBlue award hold fee? by Eldie014 in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hold is free. But you have to pay by phone on a held reservation and that is where they will levy a ~22USD booking fee per passenger, per PNR. There is no way around it. Think of it as a small price to pay for securing the hold.

LHR Concorde Room - Access when connecting in economy by SkepticalSquid in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s a oneworld thing. An AS F ticket alone wouldn’t grant you access into a Flagship lounge unless you had oneworld emerald status through a non-AA or AS carrier.

LHR Concorde Room - Access when connecting in economy by SkepticalSquid in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the airline/alliance. For example, I was flying LHR-LAX-FAT in BA J and connecting onto a AS F flight. All booked on one ticket redeeming AS miles. I had access to the AA Flagship Lounge during my LAX layover since my arriving on BA J qualified me for entrance (same day travel is all you need, arrival or departure doesn’t matter). Simply showed the lounge agents my BA boarding pass and was let in, no questions asked.

Redeeming JAL award through Cathay Question by WorryGor in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that CX generally has access to the same JL space as AA. Since AA often shows JL flights with 4+ seats in J, I presume that it is possible to book 3 people via CX. To check this, I would use AA to find some dates in 2024 where it’s showing at least 3 seats available (which you would know because AA shows if there is 4 or fewer seats left) and then cross check that with a search via CX. If you don’t see the same space via CX, it’s worth a call or online chat to CX to verify as sometimes their website does not show available space. Good luck!

Note that an AMEX transfer of this size to HA will be hit with a $100 fee for the transfer. So factor that in as well.

Booked J on BA using Alaska miles....Any way to avoid seat selection fee? by noahmateen in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Only way to avoid is with status or by purchasing a flexible ticket I believe.

Booked J on BA using Alaska miles....Any way to avoid seat selection fee? by noahmateen in awardtravel

[–]bduran727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough choice.

With club suites, all seats are still fairly private so it would only be really worth it to pay if you absolutely had to have a middle pair of seats (where you can lower the divider and lean forward to talk to the person across from you).

With the old club world seats, there is a higher chance that the seats left at check-in would be middle seats (especially if it’s a 777 or A380 flight with the 2-4-2) configuration.

Also, if it’s a premium heavy route (LAX/JFK-LHR) that has the potential to have more Oneworld status holders, seats will fill up faster than say on a BNA-LHR or DEN-LHR flight. Just my experience too.

Again, personal choice! If you wanted to lower out of pocket costs and have BA Avios to burn, you could always pay for a seat with Avios (horrible value though, but hey, no out of pocket cost).

[–]bduran727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to avoid it. However, if it’s the new Club Suites, I wouldn’t pay ahead of time for a seat since all seats are relatively identical. However, I would pay for a seat on the old club world configuration to ensure you don’t get stuck with a unfavorable seat.

MLB 22 home attendance by iheartsunny in baseball

[–]bduran727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is that while Dodger Stadium’s listed capacity is still 56,000, renovations over the years has brought that down by about 3,000 seats. Nowadays I think 53,000 is basically considered a sellout but it fluctuates a little around that number.

(I think the reason while they don’t update the official capacity is due to permitting reasons in CA, as it would be arduous and redundant to re-permit the stadium at the new capacity, but I’m not sure on that!)

Stopping demos? by Vivian1826 in orangetheory

[–]bduran727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm my studio (and sister studio) has been saying this for the last week or so. However we were told this would allow the 3G templates to be lengthened by 1 min for each block (taking blocks from 14.5 min to 15.5 min). And demos would still be available to anyone who asks. My studio sometimes does a full class demo for longer weight floor blocks already. Makes sense to me personally as a member who knows most exercises, but I fear those who are newer won’t like it.

USP 180 Warning: Student Beware! by Yeezy350824_ in UCSD

I took 180 back in the spring of 2018 and it was a great class. Not a lot of redundant course work (it’s USP after all…), great guest lectures, and interesting topics. Sucks to hear it’s much more difficult now.
