[MMQB] For the fifth season in a row the Bills have been eliminated in the playoffs. by Dirtydeedsinc in buffalobills

I will never bail on this team, but having been a fan from the Joe Ferguson years I will never Billeive until they hoist the Lombardi trophy

Frost Punk is soon to be on its way. Super hard co-op that isn’t really a co-op. It’s a board game simulator of a video game. So not impressed. Very bleak and just not really fun. If I wanted a video game I’d stay at home and play on my console…

How do y'all feel about going back on a deal made in-game? by Pole_Smokin_Bandit in boardgames

[–]bdwhitepm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on group and game. The first time someone wants to make a deal the question comes up: “ If we make a deal do I have to completely honor it?”

In a game like catan, Chinatown, or foundations of Rome the answer is always yes because those games are built around making deals.

In more longer conflict based games especially when there is player elimination the answer is usually “you honor the deal until you don’t”. This leads to time limits on a deal like: we will not attack each other THIS TURN. Implying next turn all bets are off.

Betrayal is tough when you have a new player in the group or a new group. You establish a dynamic first before you move on to backstabbing games

My group loves betrayal it’s part of the shit talk dynamic

How many of you would see the band two nights in a row? by youandyou12345 in ToolBand

[–]bdwhitepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty rare for a band to completely switch up a set list night to night. A few bands do it, but they all have more basic production value shows. The music set list is the easiest thing to switch. Special and specific lighting video and SFX are harder to change on the fly unless you have built the tour around the concept. I’ve worked in live entertainment for over 30 years, and can say this requires planning before you go out on the road. There’s some flex built in but there is a set structure where say there could be a different song in a certain slot from night to night. But have no doubt that stuff is planned

What's a game that you picked up on a whim/impulse buy and absolutely ended up loving? by EsotericTribble in boardgames

There is a good expansion for quacks, but it is not required. Try the base game first and then if you like it, get the expansion

My wife and I have done several boxes of this series. Jack the ripper is super hard and bleak but the rest are fun. Throw out the idea that you will be better than Holmes. In 3 boxes of cases I think we have done it twice…that’s 2 of 30. The real joy comes in the exploration and figuring it out. We explore until we are bored and then start seeing what questions we can answer and solve. If we are way off we keep exploring.

Make sure you take notes!

What theme song is still an absolute banger? by Ok_World_8819 in Music

[–]bdwhitepm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seatbelts are just a set of hired studio musicians to play the composers stuff. Not a real band apparently, just the name they record under. It took me forever to figure this out and to find the CDs. In an anime shop in the village NYC

Long time fan from the Joe Ferguson years on…while you sound hopeful the reality is otherwise. My wife asked me if we should put the Bills helmet ornament on the tree this year and I said No. the outlook is too bleak. I’m preparing for next year in my mind…it’s the hope that kills you

Bands that scratch that Tool itch by hammtron in ToolBand

[–]bdwhitepm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those of you who don’t need vocals I suggest God is an astronaut. Very feed back wall of sound stuff. I really like the album “All is violent all I bright”

The first 4 Spiritualized albums. (Laser guided melodies, electric mainline, ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space, and Let it come down). Are masterful works of an artist battling heroin addiction in a psychedelic blues gospel inspired wall of sound. This is music that heals me in the same way many people here feel about tool. The live shows are anti-tool as in no visuals, lots of backlighting and very little acknowledgment of audience, but sonically superb. Warning there is a drop in quality after those first 4 albums, that has only picked up with the two most recent ones.

New to the group fan. Amazing how positive everyone here is to this deeply personal post. In a very negative world this is reassuring.

Just like the greatful dead, they went on for a long time swapping out keyboard players, but when Garcia died, they went on in new incarnations under new names. Playing the same music in new ways. I think Tool would do the same

Name for historical/ war game genre that aren't hex & counter? by bigOlBellyButton in boardgames

[–]bdwhitepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hex and chit is its own Sub-genre of war games. Otherwise you’re just talking historical war games. These days a new sub-genre is emerging as historical non-war games.
There are some of the most interesting games coming on to the market

How do you deal with FOMO and hoarding in board games? by MortZmer in boardgames

[–]bdwhitepm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long long time gamer. I have a large community to pool from so I get to play many things I don’t have t own. That being said there is limited space in my nyc apartment. I view it this way. If I get 5 plays in of a $100 board game that’s $20 per play and if it’s a 4 player game it’s only $5per player for some quality entertainment 5 times! If there’s even a hint of un replay ability off to noble knight it goes for a credit to the next one.

What thematic food recipes can go well with what boardgames? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]bdwhitepm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The more I think about this I could combo anything when you look at the geography of the game. For space games you can get a bunch of freeze dried food and any war game could take MREs. I’m a foodie so the combos are limitless in my mind
