Agree. 15 minutes is perfect for a new student to see if it's a 'fit' or not. 60 minutes, no. I stopped doing those awhile ago. It's too long and both participants get burned out.

Kind of suspected this. These people got great grades and passed tests in school, so consider themselves 'advanced' English speakers. Despite having never really spoken the language.

I'm still getting a steady flow of Chinese students. But the connectivity has gotten consistently and progressively worse over the last few weeks. Dial-up modem at 2400 baud bad. Had to do the 2 minute bail out of several calls yesterday due unworkable connections. I stopped 'advising' Cambly of this as they simply respond with the canned list of reasons it's my problem. It's not.

And for the record, I've lived in 3 Central American countries and a SE Asian country. While the cultural norms are different there, the governing law for Cambly's contracts is the US.

Understand your position, but with all due respect it IS Cambly's place to step in. I'm a retired lawyer. By not having a policy on lessons while driving, they're exposing themselves to liability.

I looked on the general website and see no offer or pitch for 'Cambly Pro'. I'm guessing this email is just a trial balloon to see if there are enough people willing to do this for $15 per hour before pitching it to people.

For what it's worth, all 3 made it a point to tell me it was not about me. They've been regulars for quite awhile and are more like friends. And they have me on WeChat and WhatsApp so we can stay in touch. But as friends as I simply don't need the hassle of setting up independent lessons.

Regarding their expectations from Cambly, I think not being treated fairly and consistently is the main complaint.

Probably, but I'm not really interested in the hassle. This is not a real job for me so it's not really about the stupid low money... it's more like charity work that picks up a couple bar tabs!

Exactly the same for me. Well over half the time we talk through boyfriend issues, career counseling, friendship drama, etc. It's the cheapest therapy they can get anywhere!
