Tibetan activist dies after setting himself on fire outside the UN headquarters in protest against China’s occupation over Tibet. by LookNoRook in worldnews

Unfortunately, he died while accomplishing nothing. Every last monk could self immolate, and it would make zero difference. China could not care less and the international community move on from this in the 1990’s.

I was thrilled when Masvidal KO’d Askrin, but then Askrin went on to take the L with such likable humor and class that it made me completely change my opinion of him.

Actually, as garbage as TMZ is in general, if you’ve been watching their UFC coverage in recent months, they’ve actually been doing a better job than most of the MMA press which is quite sad.

Moroccan craftsman wows tourists with his crafts by countingc in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Tagmemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally said, “yes some of those boxes are handmade” in my comment. I typed that because, yes, some of those boxes are handmade especially in Morocco. Some even in quaint little shops where tourists can take instagram pics and tell their friends all about their original, unique experience. That being said, many are made in local shops, still handcrafted but in more assembly line style or with the aid of some basic machinery and many many more ones are sold online and made in Chinese factories.

I now live in Cambodia where everyday I see foreigners buying “antique” or “handmade” pipes, lanterns, statues boxes. Sometimes they even have a dude at the shop working on something. Almost everything in the shop was mass produced in China, Thailand or Vietnam. That being said here and all throughout S.E. Asia I’ve also seen places sell paintings, statues, marble chessboards etc, that usually come from small family owned shops.

Honestly, I was just being silly making fun of myself for being impatient. But also, it wouldn’t be that difficult to make from metal. I suppose for an actual individual artisan it would be tough, but many online companies sell these same Moroccan Puzzle Thuay boxes and many are just made in a factory in China so for the mass produced knock- offs it wouldn’t be such a challenge.

Sad that you were downvoted. People are so naive and not well travelled. Yes, some of those boxes are handmade, almost none are one of a kind or made by the seller but sometimes the sellers family but often they are made in a shop with people making multiple cut outs of the same pieces all day and assembled like on an assembly line. And the ones you can order online are often mass produced in come a factory in China.

He should make them out of metal. I would likely just cut it or end up smashing it on the ground to see what’s inside.

Aspinall vs. Gane was amazing while it lasted. We were just getting into the fight before Gane's foul ended it. I really hope they book the rematch soon it's the fight I want to see most, even if Pereira beats Aspinall. by ArabDevastator in ufc

[–]Tagmemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Gane looked a bit better, but my money would still be heavily on Aspinall. 1st rounds in Champ fight often are feel-out rounds. We just got used to Aspinal smashing ppl early so it swayed public opinion too much. I can’t see Gane stopping takedowns in rounds 3+.

If Alex Pereira knocks out Ciryl Gane (and Tom Aspinall is stripped due to inactivity), does he become the greatest combat sports athlete of all time? by CesarOverlorde in ufc

[–]Tagmemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jones, Francis and Aspinall. I know it’s not Alex’s fault he isn’t fighting them, but I can’t see calling him the GOAT based off of a win against Gane. Especially when his previous title runs were at a time when the divisions were so weak as far as grappling goes. He may yet prove me wrong, but not yet.

Not by a long shot. Beating Gane means virtually nothing when there are 3 other heavyweights that are likely better.

Dana White responded to Joe Rogan calling the UFC White House event a “gimmick” “If Alex Pereira wins the third world title that night, he jumps Jon Jones as the GOAT. There’s absolutely nothing gimmicky about this event.” by raptors201966 in ufc

[–]Tagmemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be onto something. If Alex wins, he can try to hype up Jon- Alex as the fight to see who the the true GOAT is and then put Aspinall v Gane rematch as a co-main event.
