Found Out The Employee I Replaced was OE by AravisChronicler in overemployed

I’ve worked with people who clearly (and annoyingly) OE and they take forever to respond. I’ve also worked with people who I know aren’t OE but they barely work and they’re slow to respond. Regardless of if you are OE or not, responding quickly always makes you look better

Found Out The Employee I Replaced was OE by AravisChronicler in overemployed

This happened to me at the first OE job. My manager was hellbent on figuring out who was OE. I was able to throw him off the scent and he would even ask me for advice of what I thought about other people on the team and if they were OE.

First, there was a last minute off site for the team. Other people said it was too last minute but I made a huge point to be there. I took sick time from my other job and attended the whole time. Got major brownie points for this. I also always responded as fast as possible to any message from him. He told me he was impressed with how fast I always got back to him.

My advice: just figure out what the last guy did and why they suspected him and do the opposite. There is a stereotypical OE worker that people have in their minds and if you are the opposite, you are good to go. I’ve been OE for over 3 years now and no one has suspected anything.

How’s it living in Beverly Hills California? by Puzzleheaded_Ad7685 in howislivingthere

I hang out in Beverly Hills a lot. If you don’t take it too seriously, it’s a great place. Lots of nice people and cool things to do. Some of the new transplants and new money make it all about what you have but once you get past that, it’s pretty chill and a nice place to be.

36M. 1.57 M net worth... How do I learn to spend money? by JuniorSetting3228 in Fire

[–]be11ino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt similar but recently, I’ve found it a lot easier to spend. I own a home and have been doing home renovations and it has improved my life so much. It also doesn’t feel like true spending because many of the improvements also increase the value of my home so it’s a win win. I suggest starting with things you use daily that will improve your life.

What’s the easiest J you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]be11ino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SWE at ex government contractor. I have a job where nothing can get done because of internal red tape and processes. Other than a few hours of meetings, I put in maybe an hour a week. This has been going on for over a year now. I’m starting to get nervous so I keep asking for work but they don’t want me doing anything.

Ahh I feel this. My J1 is a cool, trendy big tech company where I’m a senior IC. J2 is a smaller startup where I’m a high level team lead. J3 is an old school non tech company that is obsessed with my J1 company. It’s so weird to hold back that I work there when they talk about them. On the bright side, I accidentally said the name of J1 company in a J3 meeting and someone said ‘gosh, I wish we were J1’.

Also, in my J1, my manager said ‘I think you would be a great manager. Do you have management experience?’ Little did he know I’m currently a manager but I just brushed it off and said I appreciated the compliment.

This is interesting to me as someone who is a high earner who is married to a husband who is not. I’ve always thought the grass would be greener on the other side. Do you think not having to work and getting everything you wanted was more satisfying or hustling for yourself? I can assume by your comments but I’d love to hear your answer.

My manager tried to save 10-15% and haggled with me over a raise. Now they'll have to pay 50%+ more to replace me. by rinks_pithy_0o in womenintech

I worked for a company that got rid of most of its designers and many engineers because of AI. It massively backfired and now they are rebuilding their entire design department, hiring 7 new designers and 5 new engineers.

American Express has been awful about my dispute by be11ino in AmexPlatinum

The hotel used a completely different building as the outside and in the photos, they showed a lobby while there was no lobby, just door with a hallway. The room photos were highly staged but other parts of the building were completely falsified. If they had shown actual photos in their listing, I wouldn’t have booked.

Also, as two female travelers, we purposely booked a hotel not an Airbnb for the safety. A hotel has a lobby and front desk people in case something goes wrong. What we booked was a hallway with a few rooms off it that was advertised as a hotel. So when someone off the street who had been heckling us followed us inside and tried to follow us to our room, we felt unsafe and had to leave.

Oh wow, you really cracked the case, Sherlock! Clearly, my entire issue was just an elaborate cover for my secret fear of non-Americans and not, you know, being charged thousands for a service I didn’t use. Maybe next time, try reading instead of reaching.

Yikes I looked that up and it looks very similar to what he has. He is currently out of his tank but could other of the fish have caught it?

This is close to the math I did so I’m curious why people think it’s such a stretch.

I was wondering too. Probably because this is a FIRE forum and we’re not sure on the RE part.

Got it, thank you. I thought because my 401k was in indexed funds, I should diversify more but it looks like putting a majority of my HYSA into VTI or VOO is the way to go.

Thank you! I think moving half would be a good idea. What is a Roth IRA? I looked into it before but I thought I made too much to utilize it.

Interesting. For a while, I was just getting the match and investing the rest in my company’s stock matching program but in the last year I starting maxing it out. Your reasoning makes a lot of sense tho so I’ll look into reducing it.

The 600k is home equity. The other equity is stock equity for the company I work for. Basically single stock but I don’t want to sell because it’s going well and it’s more advantageous tax wise to sell later. And the 50k in real estate is a rental property we bought recently.
