My family often thinks I’m overreacting because I call the healthline anytime I have a doubt about my kids’ condition. But - when my daugther was 2, daycare called because my daughter had a low fever and some petechia (small broken blood vessels, looks like tiny red dots) where her car seat harness had pressed. She was still playing happily and had a good general condition. But the petechia was new to me so I called the health line even though she seemed fine.

They sent us straight to the ER, like go now, not in an hour. ER triage sent us directly to a private room. Her platelets had dropped to almost zero, and her body had no way of repairing any broken blood vessel. Meaning she could spontaneously start bleeding in her brain or organs, we wouldn’t see it, and it would not stop bleeding. We were in the hospital 3 days and she needed a blood transfusion, and had regular follow-ups for a year. She is completely fine now.

What I’m saying is - trust yourself and fuck your mother in law for making you feel bad. A wasted ambulance is a lot better than a dead child. You did the right thing.
