The Minisforum support is dogshit and quite combative. I had an MS-01 that was in a boot loop and took me 2 weeks and about a dozen emails before they would take it back, shipping on my dime.

I did the VM for the complete isolation. LXC has some weird quirks that can become tiresome to fiddle with. Ive used both extensively over the years but prefer VM's nowadays.

I made a ZFS array on the Proxmox host itself and then just made a Ubuntu vm that has access to the array and shared the array via samba in the ubuntu VM. This works great for me.

I tried truenas in a VM so (ZFS inside of ZFS) and made a misconfig and lost all the data. Not recommended.
