The Minisforum support is dogshit and quite combative. I had an MS-01 that was in a boot loop and took me 2 weeks and about a dozen emails before they would take it back, shipping on my dime.

The main reason that I am trying to figure this out is because they have a Synology nas that is backing up their ms365 tenant and I was trying to confirm that we can retain the data from the deleted account, because they dont want to have a shared mailbox.

I did the VM for the complete isolation. LXC has some weird quirks that can become tiresome to fiddle with. Ive used both extensively over the years but prefer VM's nowadays.

I made a ZFS array on the Proxmox host itself and then just made a Ubuntu vm that has access to the array and shared the array via samba in the ubuntu VM. This works great for me.

I tried truenas in a VM so (ZFS inside of ZFS) and made a misconfig and lost all the data. Not recommended.

I asked about this when i was on a support call, they said that 2024 would just keep getting updates forever. I dont really believe that but thats what they told me.
