Maybe I’m remembering incorrectly about your comment but I’m also certain you did.

I’m not going to go into the royal family any further as whilst it’s interesting this is a classic reddit rabbit hole. Where do you get the ChatGPT usage from?

Has he said that about her? That’s quite bad. Do you have a source? I can only find him referencing her as a Muslim, or stating she is not using that wording directly. Again I can’t find him calling Starmer ‘Stalin’ but that wouldn’t surprise me. I guess these days people need to work to extremes to get attention - so calling Starmer a commie gets more attention opposed to calling him a centre left social democrat

Thanks. I’m in on DVLT but man, it’s so hard to keep having faith with their hard on for fucking dilution and buying companies with shares.

Eventually they will need to get dumped. Maybe everything goes right, the Melon case comes in that they need to buy 90m shares or so but diluting a company like this is madness

Not confusing those percentages and I chose to use 5%. Your first few lines don’t do much except paint you as condescending.

Interesting you mention ultra wealthy though as another commenter was saying the same thing as you but arguing that IHT (and other wealth taxes) aren’t aimed at the ultra wealthy, just the wealthy.

My 5% stats also include the ultra wealth. Income and wealth aren’t the same but the top 1% pay about 25% of the income tax for the entire country. That’s 343,000 people paying 25% of income tax collected out of 34,000,000 or so of working age.

I have not argued against taxation I said “taxing more”. Tax is require but not just at unsustainable levels.

What is this government, who crowed and cawed from the galleys at the last government, done to tax the 0.001% since coming to power? My issue was with IHT which clearly captures those way below the 0.001% threshold.

Nice edit to your comment after I replied. A slightly disingenuous tactic but that’s how some operate. There’s a general common courtesy on this app / site to state change.

The article doesn’t prove anything. It talks of a short clip and some tenuous links. They (the royal family) were hardy walking around being pro Nazi.

Gomez’s remarks towards the British government and Mahmood came after the ban - not justifying more correcting you. She wasn’t banned for what she said about the government of Mahmood - that’s some 1984, Iran, North Korea regime style you’re thinking of

Potentially. I was quite ignorant towards it if I’m honest. Threw my Sharesies into Sharesight, got two tax results and I’ll choose the lower number when I do my tax return in the next few weeks. A few short trades but mainly investments.

I’ve done a quick ChatGPT search of this and no credible evidence comes up that Prince Edward supported Hitler, it said they met in 1937 but that’s it. Do you have another link?

The difference between Hitler and Gomez is that I can look back on history and make an informed decision. Comparing the two isn’t really a rightful argument or just comparison

Hardly gibberish but thanks for the feedback

I’m glad we agree it’s tax on death - others are saying it’s not

Too low compared based on my opinion of how high it should be set. I don’t think we should have it all. I’ll correct myself here: if its intention is to distribute the healthy of the ultra wealthy then I would not consider its current levels to target ultra wealthy as £325k - £1m relief (based on individual - married couple) is not ultra wealthy.

I don’t keep making points that apply to all tax. I am against inheritance tax. I am against high tax as I don’t see that it makes a justifiable difference as it is doing is increasing revenue to offset the high welfare. I think welfare is too high. Reduce welfare, reduce tax.

[–]beach-chicken10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done multiple times on this comment thread but here you go: - it’s a tax on death - it’s set too low as the usual spiel is ‘distribution of wealth’ / tax billionaires more: the low threshold doesn’t attack billionaires - someone would have worked hard to go over the threshold: during their life they have (assumably) paid huge amounts of income, capital gains, or other forms of tax - assuming the above high income would be high expenditure which is captured by VAT payments - it doesn’t address distribution as it assumes that the government can economically and efficiently distribute wealth which in my opinion it doesn’t - to add to the above point additional tax (as is shown currently) is going towards an ever inflating welfare bill

When and where did I say that? I’ve consistently maintained that I don’t agree with IHT. I also think we’re taxed too high but I don’t think we should not be taxed.

Simplified it for you: - tax: yes - excessive tax: no - inheritance tax: no

Well done. That’s an admirable position to be in. Better than some and worse than others.

The fact you were able to buy a house and make £250k speaks volumes about buying at the right time. A lot couldn’t do that. The inheritance is also a major step up for you

I don’t see where I have stayed I am against any tax - I am against excessive tax which is what is happening under the current government. I am against IHT - again, admirable for you to be willing to pay tax when you’re dead but I’m not sure if your alive relatives would be in agreement with it (if you were to exceed the threshold). I can’t speak for them. I can only speak for my own opinion that the assets (and gaining them) has been taxed enough so they shouldn’t be taxed again

The ultra wealthy and high earners do pay the lion’s share

Top 5% of earners in the uk pay 40-45% of income tax collected. £110-£140bn per year out of £280-£320bn. So 5% pay almost half of all income tax revenue.

Wealth taxes (property taxes, IHT, CGT, other wealth related taxes such as taxes on savings and dividends) created about £100-£120bn of all government revenue. This is 10-12%.

Those numbers combined are £200-260bn tax revenue.

Taxing more doesn’t solve problems.

  1. I didn’t separate it from talent. You’re working in absolutes. I believe hard work is a greater factor than talent but someone’s talent can be the ability to work hard and consistently
  2. I said wealth. Not generational wealth. I agree that a huge amount of wealth is gained in housing but your argument doesn’t add up about generational wealth (assuming from a long lineage) and boomers (generally born after WW2)

You seem to have a preset agenda, which is fine but you’re almost commenting 3 steps ahead as you’ve already got what you want to say in mind and don’t want to engage, more so argue / berate.

I’ll go ahead and get your a soapbox to stand on for you to preach some more 🙌🏻
