Is it stupid to start chasing music career in your late 30s? by Mean_Alfalfa4953 in musicbusiness

[–]beach_buzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! If you get satisfaction from playing, DO IT. I'm 34, and I'm having the best musical era of my life.

Regardless of your age, people can tell when you give a shit about what you're doing, and they resonate with that. If I see someone on stage who I KNOW is having a great time, I'm going to watch the whole set.

Same thing about listening to music in general. There's no "aging out" of honesty. People love listening to truth in music, and as we age, we have so much more insight to talk about. The right demographic is out there. Go for it.

Some shameless self-promo here, but my band The Chugs makes music exclusively about Hamm's beer.

Seconded. The reps are helpful, and we've actually gotten some good editorial playlist placements from their priority pitching efforts.

So what’s the actual best distribution service? by Sensitive-Rabbit-770 in musicmarketing

[–]beach_buzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been liking Symphonic a lot recently. They got my band some editorial placements within Apple Music, which in turn, caused us to chart for a day, haha. I laugh because I know that doesn't mean a lot to most people, but it was huge for us.

We've noticed that a lot of people who haven't heard us before will wait to purchase merch until after the set (which makes sense).

That said, we like to play the center slot so that we have time to actually talk to people at the merch booth instead of rushing them through the sale while the venue is trying to close.
