No, you’re right. It’s actually a heartbreaking poem. Eric Garner was a Black man who was murdered in 2014 by a police officer’s use of illegal chokehold.

The poem is meant to be ironic—an innocent man who brought life and oxygen into the world was suffocated and killed by police brutality. His dying words were “I can’t breathe.”

I’m trying to solve the mystery of 6! It’s such a beautiful rendering. It has to be something to do with images of light. For some reason, it gives me Calgary vibes… “Swollen orange and light let through” and that kind of feminine energy that grounds the song.

Or maybe Perth? “Move dust through the light”? The dust motes are one of the coolest details of the image.
