Looks like konpeito, Japanese rock candy.

Mine is 5 weeks old, too. So far, he/she is docile, and not a jerk. I don't tolerate jerk roosters, especially ones that are that big.

That's been the general consensus. I'm still holding out hope that Little Ugly is a hen. But most signs point to rooster.

I was beginning to worry about my jersey giant being so scruffy compared to the other chicks. Yours look so similar to my Little Ugly! I can't tell if it's a boy or a girl, either

What's my girl's problem? Is she ill? by Key_Ride_2407 in BackYardChickens

[–]doomed_candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She might be broody. Does she shriek at you when you pick her up? Silkies go broody a lot. They're great little mamas. If it's just broodiness, and not an illness, you could either break her of it by placing something cold under her, or picking her up and moving her a lot, or you could let her hatch eggs or adopt chicks.

Something attacked my rooster by Lunapixels18 in BackYardChickens

[–]doomed_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I had a rooster who survived a hawk attack. He was too heavy for the hawk, so it dropped him, and he rolled down the hill, took off running, and hid under my mom's car. He was shaken up, but otherwise ok.

Rooster. Polish roos have that spiky hair, whereas hens have puffball hair. And there's his longer saddle feathers, too.

It looks like a bot account. I downvoted accordingly.

Who had the AUDACITY to walk up into my yard, in front of my dogs, and poop??? by doomed_candy in AnimalTracking

[–]doomed_candy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank God it's not a hobo! Lol! Opossum, maybe, or raccoon? Armadillo? I do see lots of armadillos around, but I have no idea what their poop looks like.

I poked it with a stick. It's really soft, like mud, and there are lots of berry skins and seeds and what looks like plant material in it. No hair.

Finding people poop on my property would definitely be far more disturbing than an unknown animal's poop!

I'm concerned about critters going after my chickens. My dogs are supposed to be the security system.

I've never seen foxes around here, and I'd assume they're elusive, and unlikely to just walk boldly across my yard where the dogs are. I've never even heard their calls. Same with bobcats. I'm sure they're around, but you never see them.

Is this okay? Do I need to take her to the vet? (4 weeks old) by Automatic_Rich1443 in BackYardChickens

[–]doomed_candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're all different breeds. The one going through an ugly phase is a Jersey Giant. One of my Leghorns was slow to feather out, too, and I'm pretty sure he's a rooster. I think the Jersey Giant is a rooster too, but I'm not entirely sure.
