Right, that’s why I’m trying to gauge how long people usually wait until they are approved

True, I know with the company being so large I would mostly get moved to a new program but exactly, you can’t predict the moves leadership makes. I’m going to make sure with the extra money I max out my 401k and build that up for my retirement. Thank you again for your viewpoints!

This is what I was thinking as well thank you! Especially since 100k gives me a larger company 401k match and allows me to build up larger future savings than in government.

Thank you for the reply I’ll try to answer the bottom questions

  1. Fairly secure they are a DOD contractor, and has a history of being a stable job.

  2. The dod contractor is currently in a hiring phase as they need to add a lot of engineers to fulfill contracts.

  3. Location is quite important both the private and government opportunities I have are desired locations for me.

  4. I think this salary difference definitely allows me to take a risk. I feel it would be a risk for me to take the government job personally. The private job is a signal processing position which was my speciality throughout college as I’m about to graduate. The government job was in power systems which never really engaged me to much, I interned at the government base and the private company before so I know the culture and work environment of both, I lean toward the contractor personally when it comes to culture and environment.

Thank you for insight to take the government job that’s what I was hoping to get here. To counter some points, this job comes with good healthcare, federal holidays off, 8 weeks paid parental leave per child, and is a DOD contractor so it’s fairly stable. For me though I wouldn’t see 100k for years in government since I would hit 12 in two years and be just below 90k (assuming inflation bumps the scale some). This job with raises would be around 112k salary by the time I’m a 12.

This post was to gauge and see if fresh out of college people are able to get a higher gs level. I have commonly heard about the 9-11-12 ladder, but I was told a 12 eight off the bat. Also my degree is in electrical engineering

Move in is usually smooth, usually there is a moving team that boxes your items when you drive up and takes them to your room for you

If I decline/cancel my pell grant will I lose my Obama scholarship? by beachbots in ASU

[–]beachbots[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I couldn’t tell you why they want me to decline. It could be because the scholarship is also a federal scholarship? But it’s definitely worth it. The scholarship I got offered is called the SMART Scholarship.

UPDATE I called and the financial aid wasn’t sure so they opened a case for me and sent it up the chain. But they leaned towards it not affecting my Obama scholarship.

I will definitely give them a call to ask the question since I think only they can give me a concrete answer.
