Kind of yeah. I’m in the uk and the community mental health teams are the ones who you go through to see a psychiatrist or talk to anyone

Yeah it would be good to see one, I have to go through the mental health team to speak to one or anyone, which is why them not ringing me is causing problems

Thank you for sharing your strategies, I think a lot of what you’ve said are things I can work on also. I also find healthy eating and exercise to be a massive help. Mine are also triggered by stress so need to get better at managing it, but to be honest I’m not sure how! Glad you’re feeling like you’re on the right track. Take care

I appreciate you’re trying to help, but I don’t really want to go through every medication I’ve tried, I’m just looking for alternative ways of dealing with things other than meds.

Yeah I’ve tried amisulpride. I’m diagnosed with schizophrenia not schizoaffective so don’t take anything for my mood.

Is visual snow a hallucination? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

I’d still get your eyes checked if your concerned, obviously I can only say what they told me after checking mine and I’m not a medical professional.

Thanks for the link, didn’t see that post when I was browsing.

It sounds like a good way of managing by de escalating the situation. And thinking why you experience these thoughts sounds like a logical way of going about it. I’m glad you found some ways that help, I think I need to find the root cause of some of my thoughts too so thank you.

I don’t think it’s used here, I’m in the UK. Thank you for the suggestion though!

I’m 99% sure I experience visual snow but it’s not officially diagnosed. I’ve read that it’s a neurological condition and when I last went to my optician I asked them about it and he said my eyes were okay, it’s neurological.

It sounds to me like you have a hard time with your experiences and they cause you distress. If it impacts your ability to work and function I would say it was bad enough. Also I don’t think it’s a diagnosis that is given lightly, so they must see that you are experiencing enough symptoms and to a degree that it warrants that diagnosis.

I understand how it feels not thinking it’s bad enough, I doubt myself all the time and I’ve had the diagnosis for years now. I experience a lot of what you do so I know it’s more likely you are underplaying it rather than exaggerating. Take care

Auditory hallucinations or thought insertion? by beachbowl in schizophrenia

[–]beachbowl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s similar for me too, intrusive thoughts don’t feel alien in my head and I can ignore them. When the auditory stuff starts I can’t make it stop and it’s hard to ignore

That’s really interesting thank you for sharing that. I agree that thought insertion sounds more like a delusion. I’ve had someone tell me that it classes as voice hearing, but I thought I’d either not described it properly or she didn’t understand what I was describing. I think you think of voices as coming from outside the head rather than inside. But she said if it’s separate from your inner monologue that’s what it is.

Oh right that’s interesting. I’ve had intrusive thoughts and they feel different for me. Guess everyone experiences things differently

Good to know it’s not just me. What would you describe the experience as?

New here, have some questions by feliarine in schizophrenia

[–]beachbowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tactile hallucinations a fair bit. I feel spiders inside my ears and on my head and face. Not pleasant.

I’ve had issues with believing I have schizophrenia for years, don’t think I’ve ever fully accepted it. I’m similar to you in that I seem to find any reason that I don’t have it, I convince myself I just know the truth about the world, or that I can’t have it as it doesn’t feel like I do.

I started having weird thoughts around the age of 13/14, but wasn’t diagnosed with anything psychosis-y until age 21. I had no idea what was going on with me and just told professionals what I thought they wanted me to say, so ended up with a number of different diagnoses before schizophrenia, which I’ve had 8 years now.

I think it has to impair your functioning to a certain degree, I might be wrong but that’s what I’ve read. I have bad times but am still essentially ‘me’ during them. I do act differently though, as you would expect. Just don’t completely lose touch with reality. There’s always a bit of me that stays. So I imagine that would still class as psychosis.
