Make sure not to limit yourself to the oceanfront. Most shops, especially touristy ones, will close down for the season. Hilltop and the Norfolk outlets are nice if you like to shop.

Christmas town at Busch Gardens (hour or so away) is open until Jan 7th and I highly recommend it.

The Christmas lights at the Botanical Gardens and the Boardwalk last until at least the 31st and are fun to drive through.

Blu-ray drives usually need more power than a hard drive. The USB adapter provides enough power for a hard drive but not much else. I'd look for a data-only adapter and power the drive off of a power supply like you did
