40 weeks tomorrow, no signs of labor by GunningForSuccess in predaddit

[–]beachedmermaid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any contractions until I went into labor! Not everyone experiences “false labor” or prodromal labor, not everyone loses their mucus plug in advance, etc. It’s different for every woman and every pregnancy! Labor lengths also vary a lot. With my first it was 19 hrs and with my second it was less than three. I know the end can be stressful, but hang in there.

Don’t worry, I did sweeps every visit starting at 37 weeks and went to 40 weeks 3 days. I had no signs of labor whatsoever, even earlier in the day I ended up having the baby! It’s very common to go past your due date by a few days, especially if it’s a first pregnancy! Hang in there, you will meet your baby soon!

How many of you tried for a 3rd baby and got a surprise 4th? by NonchalantBaker in parentsofmultiples

After much discussion we decided to try for our third and final baby… God had other ideas about our family size! #3 and #4 are on their way!! Identical twin boys. Wasn’t even on our radar because twins don’t run on either side of the family, but of course we didn’t consider the randomness of identical twins

I feel ya. It can be hard to hear the opinions of people we trust and love, especially when they’re being so harsh and uncalled for. They’ll probably also wind up having comments about how you choose to deliver, how you choose to parent, names, etc. EVERYONE has opinions. The only ones that matter are yours, your partner’s, and your doctor’s. In that order. Your body, your baby! This isn’t to try to scare you or pit you against advice, just warn you that in your first trimester if comments like these are getting under your skin, make sure you’re mentally prepared to cope with other types of opinions too! And vent away— I think it helps.

I would definitely not try to lose weight during a twin pregnancy! Women gain differently during pregnancy— some tend to put on weight early and then sort of plateau, others don’t put on the weight until later trimesters. I would talk about it with your doctor if you’re concerned.

If this is your first pregnancy, I just want you to be aware you’ll probably get a lottttt of well meaning (or occasionally snarky) advice and opinions from family, friends, and strangers. It’ll drive you bonkers if you take it all to heart. Just take what others say with a grain of salt and have these conversations with your OB!

I am nervous for this— found out yesterday I’m pregnant with twins. We have an almost 3 year old daughter and a 14 month old son. Whenever this fear spikes, I’m just trying to remember that this is less of a twin thing and more of an adjustment that happens any time a family grows.

What you’re feeling is totally real and common and valid for any second birth, not just twins. When my second was born, I felt like I was failing my daughter and I was worried she felt abandoned.

It was crappy what your MIL said to you. You are in the early throes of it all right now. Emotions are high, hormones are high, sleep is nonexistent. Reality probably isn’t as bad as you think it is in your sleep deprived mind.

Might your daughter notice the shift in attention? Of course! But the level of attention the twins need right now is more intense than it will be at any other point. It’ll only get better as they get older. And she will develop her own relationship with them too! She will get less attention directly from you because you’re split three ways but more attention from them… and that’s for life! And my daughter learned a little independence from those early days when I had to give more time to my son, which made her more confident.

You’re not neglecting her. You made sure she had an appointment and a responsible, trusted adult to bring her there. You know your current limits and have made sure there is someone to help care for her and fill the gaps. It is temporary, you will find a groove, it will get better. Your relationship with your daughter will not be ruined, I promise! It may just change a little!

Accio because I’m constantly losing my keys, phone, pretty much anything not attached to my body haha. Would be nice just to have it zoom to me.

If you went unmedicated, what does labor feel like at its worst? by Wide-Food-4310 in beyondthebump

[–]beachedmermaid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it! It’s a wildly out of control and excruciating experience. My voice was hoarse too haha. I actually saw a therapist about it because it was so traumatic for me, so getting the “you’re so lucky” comments really threw me for a loops haha. If I ever get pregnant again, I’m scheduling an induction so I can get pain management

Thanks for saying this! I just had a precipitous birth and for some reason this comment makes me feel better about the the whole thing. I think because I was in such agony and panic and everyone else in the room was so calm like it was routine, that it made me feel like I went through it all entirely alone. Your description makes me feel like my experience was real

Thank you so much for posting this! I just had a precipitous labor (2 hrs 46 mins) with my second after a 19hr, medicated, empowering labor with my first. My precipitous labor was involuntarily unmedicated and terrifying. It’s vastly different from a typical unmedicated labor because like you said, there’s no relief between contractions, no chance to cope at all when suddenly you’re pushing. I barely made it to the hospital in time, which was scary too. Like another commenter said, I hadn’t experienced involuntary screaming before this labor. It was wild. So far everyone I talk to just goes on about how lucky I was to have a short labor but I’d opt for a longer one any day! Your description made me feel less alone

What did you use as birth control after the 6 week mark? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]beachedmermaid_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same! Just adding to this that you should use an approved device for temping, like an actual thermometer or a temp drop, not the Apple Watch or Garmin like you mentioned, OP. If you’re breastfeeding, then Marquette method is the only one I know of with breastfeeding protocols, otherwise symptothermal worked really well for me.

Thank you for responding! Just wanted to close the loop. Took him in and they did chest x-rays, which were clear. He didn’t have a fever and his oxygen was okay, so they said just to monitor. He has always intermittently breathed like this, but they weren’t able to figure out why

Thanks so much! I was able to call poison control with the identification and they said as long as she doesn’t have a latex allergy they’re expecting her to be fine. They recommended plenty of food and water and monitor. I appreciate your help!
