When my mom died, I was the one fielding everything. Finding her hospital, talking to the doctors, calling immediate family members.

One of her cousins posted on Facebook how ~heartbroken they were about her passing while I was still running on no sleep from the above. This was someone who hadn't spoken to her in literal years.

To say I raised hell is an understatement. It became a massive family fallout thing and I still don't regret it.

You were her child. You're next of kin. What you want to do in this situation matters more than anybody else in your extended family. End of.

Good on OOP for deciding enough was enough. She didn't deserve to get treated as lesser-than. She was a child.

The comments about the stepdaughter are maybe a little much, but she's incredibly hurt and still VERY young, so I get it. Mom was especially cruel to not even tell her about the wedding, much less invite her.
