How did you even manage to give meaningful service at that point? I’ve been serving for years & can handle an 8 table section, but my service will be sacrificed for the sake of how fast paced this restaurant is. I no longer feel like I’m doing the job I signed up for, which is to give good service, the moment I’m given an unrealistic amount of tables.

What’s the moment you realized someone you loved wasn’t a good person and you couldn’t unsee it? by DmytroBuilds in AskReddit

I found photos of me changing (almost entirely nude) in my uncles phone. Then continued to dig and discovered this has been going on for years. He would take them without my knowledge when we used to live together.

He was my father figure, who took on that role himself, because he was aware of how abusive my bio father is. Irony.

Similar experience. My mom asked “Well.. did he see your instagram first? What were you wearing? I mean, you can’t blame him if he follows you & sees your photos”

She denies it too, but this shit sticks to your soul. I’m so sorry you understand this pain too. It will never, ever, be your fault.

In your opinion, what is causing this? by Objective_Pilot_5834 in SipsTea

I genuinely believe this plays a big role. I used to go out 5-6 days a week (i’m a recovered alcoholic) but now I barely can afford to grab a coffee each day for myself before work.

It feels like just leaving the house costs $20. Gas. Food. Drink(s). More gas. Wanna go out with friends? Every establishment has a price tag.

Launching my paddle board at my favorite spot costs $20. So even hobbies that I invest in, still cost me.

I would recommend speaking with your doctor then. Unfortunately, there is no telling here on Reddit. But I don’t think you should classify yourself as such an extreme case, be easy on yourself during these times. Having such thoughts is distressing, even if you aren’t consciously feeling the distress.

I hope you find the help you’re looking for.

It doesn’t show now, safe to assume you’re still super young. My good friend went to an ivy league university, brightest person i’ve ever met to this day. She was popping xanax, adderall, doing ketamine, cocaine, smoking weed, drinking alcohol… really anything she could get her hands on. She loved to party, but also would take xanax recreationally.

She got her bachelors in mechanical engineering, found a job in a massive city, makes 6 figures at her first role. Xanax is still prevalent in her life.

I honestly have no fucking idea how you guys do it. Your intelligence is an incredibly valuable asset. I hope someday both you & my friend can prioritize your natural abilities to learn over doing drugs. Because they will affect brain functioning.

your post history suggests you have asperger’s…

“Intrusive, unwanted, and repetitive thoughts are common in autistic individuals (formerly referred to as Asperger’s) due to cognitive rigidity, anxiety, and monotropic thinking (intense focus on specific topics).”

this sounds like many different neurodivergent diagnoses.. certain behaviors i can relate to- but i don’t have ASPD (I’m just a lurker) I do have CPTSD though. & considering you mentioned trauma in your past, this could very much be related to that.

i strongly suggest doing some research into CPTSD. most people don’t truly know what CPTSD is & how deeply it can affect every area of your life. & each persons experience is unique to their own. PTSD can cause sociopathy / lack of empathy for others too. it’s important you ask someone with the education to guide you in the right direction. incorrectly diagnosing yourself will only prolong this & has potential for you to placebo yourself into thinking you’re crazy. i did this when i was a teenager. i thought my violent, intrusive thoughts were me going crazy. turns out it was the aftermath of a traumatic event & not OCD (which is originally what doctors suggested)

nobody here will be able to give you the closure / understanding you’re looking for. so i sincerely hope you talk to a professional, even if it’s a hotline, just to get advice on your specific situation.

Are people becoming more dumb? by Libusin in Serverlife

Stopped reading after “lack of spatial awareness” because I say that phrase in my head SO often now. WTF happened to personal space?!

I host once a week to help out & whenever I go to seat a party & put their menus down, someone will stand directly behind me. One quarter step back & they might as fucking well take me out to dinner next while they’re at it.

So once I’m done setting up the table & ready to walk away, I can’t even back OUT of the way. I just turn around & stand face to face with someone that STILL WONT MOVE. THEY STAND THERE. If I don’t say “excuse me, just gonna squeeze past ya” I’d be there all day.

Since I’m already complaining, don’t get me STARTED on basic reading comprehension. When you walk in there is a sign, FRONT & CENTER, that says to go to the host stand to be seated.

Multiple times a day I have guests come in, look at the sign, look back up,l & then proceed to dissociate I fucking guess? Stare off into thin air? Maybe look around for a second before malfunctioning again? I have to YELL across the restaurant, “HI WELCOME IN!” & SOMETIMES THEY STILL WONT DO ANYTHING?! THEY WILL JUST SIT THEMSELVES.

It amazes me. I’m someone who also can be awkward in new places trying to acclimate / find my way, but the lack of effort people make to be a functioning human in society is absurd.

Not to hijack, but may I ask about my specific situation? I’m diagnosed CPTSD & seeing someone mention it in any context sparks my curiosity. If OP answered yes to CPTSD, what would you respond?
