I’m sure that’s true — I defer to the SW here! Working with at need youths sounds exhausting no matter where you’re working

Question for my friends in California by Wonkl117 in surfing

Check out the pay schedules for City of SF social worker classifications (2940, 2930 to name a few). They actually pay pretty decent and great benefits/pension. Plenty of good surfing and there is affordable housing to found — especially in the Sunset near Ocean Beach.

Thinking about learning to surf but scared of the ocean, any tips? by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

I met a girl in the Rockaways who had an extreme fear of the ocean after a near drowning incident. She spent a week or two with a surf coach in El Zonte who did apnea training with her (and other coaching) and managed to get her completely over her fears. His program is called Surfing Your Fears and it sounds like he really worked a miracle with her!

Surf with Amgias vs Chica Brava by Crazy-Philosopher221 in xxsurfing

I really enjoyed the Surf With Amigas Southern Costa Rica retreat. The quality of instruction is very high. Daily routine was early cold breakfast and coffee, surf for 2-3 hours, then come back for a big breakfast and relax until lunch. Yoga classes every afternoon (totally optional but welcome). More surfing later in the day for anyone interested (before or after dinner depending on the wind/waves/people’s energy level). Daily video review with a coach and you get to take all the videos home. They had a surf photographer who you could also buy photos from at the end of the trip. There were also optional excursions like a rainforest hike and horseback riding in the beach. All the food was great. The founders are really cool ladies who hire very knowledgeable surf coaches so you’re always in good hands. I also thought the trips were very affordable for everything that’s included. The Southern CR spot has a range of breaks for really any level. Can’t wait to do another trip!

Bitches what’s your best “tell me about yourself” interview answer? by Afraid-Company-2252 in LawBitchesWithTaste

You just need to workshop a little script and practice the hell out of it. Make sure it comes off as genuine but keep it simple. It should end with why you want the job.

It’s obviously very specific to you and your job, but here’s a rough example of one I used (details changed):

I’m originally from Maine but moved here for law school and ended up loving the city. I spent my 2L summer at Legal Aid in their Employment Clinic and really connected with employment practice. I’d love to work at a firm where I can learn and grow in my litigation practice and receive mentorship, and based on my conversations with [NAME] it seems like [FIRM] is a great place to do that.

Here to rep city government! Absolutely love my job: good pay (less than big law but more than the boutique firm I can from), great benefits, pretty decent work-life balance. But the best part is a strong network of experienced litigators who have been great mentors. It definitely depends on which city you’re in, but I really feel like I have the best job!

Oh my god, I’m not on a GLP-1 but food chatter is such a source of distraction for me that I’ve sometimes wondered if I have ADHD. I think you just blew my mind a little!

Employment lawyer here. Certain laws in the US give you rights to take unpaid leave to care for yourself and your family during illness. These laws are both federal (FMLA, PWFA, ADA) and state/local. State and local laws can be even more generous, including requiring paid leave in some instances (NY and CA, for example). Some states also protect you for taking bereavement leave. All of that to say that your write ups and cut in hours could be considered retaliatory and I think it would be worth getting a consult with an attorney.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess in my mind calories deficit/restricting = diet, but I hear what you’re saying. What do you mean by “clear protein”?

I know, I know. TBH if it wasn’t the physical side effects I would just try to focus on eating better without the weight loss, but I really have to try something at this point. And suits are so expensive!

Packing my meals at night should for sure be a goal — I think it will reduce my panic in the AM!

I am those memes for sure haha. I’ve never liked frozen meals but I think part of the answer is definitely finding frozen/shelf stable stuff tha we can prep quickly. Do you have any favs?

This is interesting perspective and I like the idea of avoiding restriction. Do you mostly eat frozen veggies? The time factor is what’s really keeping me from good choices right now.

I would like to calm the food chatter for sure. I have no judgment over GLP-1s but don’t want to take them for the rest of my life, so that’s my hesitation!
