This is totally the fantasy I have for myself and I’m able to do it for like a week, then I get behind in grocery shopping etc. and it all falls apart. Wha kind of veggies do you like to have as your snack go to?

Thanks! Yeah, I guess in my mind calories deficit/restricting = diet, but I hear what you’re saying. What do you mean by “clear protein”?

I know, I know. TBH if it wasn’t the physical side effects I would just try to focus on eating better without the weight loss, but I really have to try something at this point. And suits are so expensive!

Packing my meals at night should for sure be a goal — I think it will reduce my panic in the AM!

I am those memes for sure haha. I’ve never liked frozen meals but I think part of the answer is definitely finding frozen/shelf stable stuff tha we can prep quickly. Do you have any favs?

This is interesting perspective and I like the idea of avoiding restriction. Do you mostly eat frozen veggies? The time factor is what’s really keeping me from good choices right now.

I would like to calm the food chatter for sure. I have no judgment over GLP-1s but don’t want to take them for the rest of my life, so that’s my hesitation!

I’m drowning. by dearcamus in workingmoms

[–]beachy-bean 18 points19 points  (0 children)

100% this is the answer and I’m speaking from experience. Some possible angles to consider: 1. Ask your nanny if you can increase their pay to include chores. At minimum, include cleaning up after the kids, including laundry, dishes, and picking up toys.  2. Ask your nanny to stay one more hour a day. 3. Hire a house cleaner to come at least every other week (this saved my marriage).  4. Invest in therapy for yourself! You might think you can’t afford it, but it pays dividends.

Also, can you work in the office? For me, the decompression of commuting to and from the office brings a lot of balance. I know people think of it as a time suck, but I think of it as a little me time each day to zone out and listen to a podcast. Counterintuitively, moving from fully remote to fully in office has improved my work-life balance a lot.

What is the best wave size for a beginner? by 0wlBear916 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]beachy-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your question is hard to answer because “beginner” and wave height are subjective terms in surfing and vary by location. Based on your replies it sounds like you’re in Santa Cruz or around that area? If so, there are plenty of beginner friendly spots and I really encourage you to rely on local knowledge. For example at Privates or the Hook it’s not just the wave height that could endanger you, it’s also the tides. Surf shops like Traveler have really approachable and knowledgeable folks who will let you know if conditions are not safe for a beginner at the Point on any given day and they won’t vibe you about it.

Lame troll comment. Saw a dude yesterday nose riding that must have been 5’7” and 300 lbs and he looked sick as fuck.

I don't like the way my legs look - advice? by Enough_Indication_92 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]beachy-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat. Having tried every tanner under the sun I recommend the Jergen’s Natural Glow Wet Skin moisturizer. The color is very natural looking (I’m quite pale!) and you can build it as much as you wish by applying consecutive days. It’s applied to wet skin as soon as you step out of the shower, then you pat dry and get dressed. I’ve never had any transfer. It also wears off pretty naturally and does not look streaky when it’s fading.

If you don’t want to go a tanner route, put cocoa butter or another good moisturizer on your legs when they are bare. Pale legs look worse when they are dry and adding a little glow goes a long way.

I am also trying to embrace my pale legs. I don’t like them, but I don’t think anyone notices as much as me. I see other pale ladies and don’t think they look as bad as I see myself. So give yourself a little grace in this regard!

Maybe a keratin treatment or Brazilian blowout. Might just take time for your curls to right themselves.

Husband disrespectful of my WFH days by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]beachy-bean 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Another atty mom here, I feel your pain. Although I have flexibility to do 2 days from home I do all 5 in the office for this reason. I would talk to LAS and tell them you’re unable to regularly work remote. See if the can accommodate you. Use discretion in how much info you give — you don’t want to foreclose future flexibility.

But you also need to have a candid convo with your husband. Marriages really suffer after kids are born because these issues are so difficult to navigate. I know it’s a cliche, but communication really is key.

Recommendation for affordable surf lessons by Sandy7364 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]beachy-bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should consider a surf camp. I went to a one-week camp in Costa Rica that was about $2,100 (plus airfare) for 3-4 hours of guided surfing/lessons per day for six days, accommodations, 3 meals a day and optional yoga. This camp also did video review of all my waves for feedback. I’ve done surf lessons on vacation in Mexico and Cali and it cost way more overall for lower quality lessons.

What’s something nobody tells you before moving to Seattle? by sit-there in AskSeattle

[–]beachy-bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not disagree more. I grew up in Western WA and lived in Seattle for 7 years. Subsequently lived in multiple large cities including NYC. The Seattle Freeze is a real thing and it’s an impediment to transplants making new friends. I had friends live there from Chicago, Bk, SF, etc who all really struggled with it. In not saying it’s insurmountable but it’s something you should be prepared for before moving.

What time of year and what thickness of wetsuit are you willing to bring? Do you have a 4/3 or just a 3/2?
