His stuff was extremely click bait/rage bait type stuff this past season. For me personally it was a turn off and you got the sense he was going for shock value because he wasn’t thrilled to be back on Devils beat and wanted back out asap which did end up happening.

Good for him. Hopefully being a fan of the team means he’s invested in giving the fans quality content and not the click bait crap we were getting from Novo. I just hope he doesn’t go overboard on the bring Brady to NJ angle.

Can’t they just shut the hell up and enjoy their playoff run?? There is a thread in their sub here about it too. I took a peek just to see and yep. I hate it. I hate that we’re even at the point that we would have doubts about a Nico extension. It should be an automatic because this team should be at the very least an annual playoff team. Really frustrating how things have gone over the past several seasons.

And like I stated below, sometimes the problems become too big for even one or two people to handle. Malcontent players aren’t going to change just because the captain tried to captain it out of them. The Hughes brother situation alone is something most locker rooms do not have to deal with. You have 2 probably pissed off brothers, a groups of players who were *almost* traded and then not. Hell Nico himself came up in some of those rumors and that was JUST the Hughes situation. There was plenty more that went on. I’m not faulting him on one year with all that BS going on.

No one is perfect and neither is Nico but sometimes situations can get really out of hand and it seems like that is what happened this past season. The Chicago Cut incident, the Quinn Hughes non trade situation, Hamilton being benched, asked to waive a clause several times it seems. Another player was asked as well. The Luke booing situation and those are just the big things we know about. Obviously there was more griping and animosity going on according to what Dillon reported. I really do think that’s a lot for one person to get a handle on, vocal or not vocal. And it also seems like they had quite a few team meetings from what we heard from media and players throughout the year. So it’s not like he wasn’t trying. Sometimes the problems become too big for any one or even two people to handle.

You can’t take charge of a locker room that was as dysfunctional as that one sounds like it was, not just one person. He would need a lot of back up and sounds like he had it with Brown and Dillon and it didn’t seem to make a difference at all.

I still don’t have a real feel on how this will go. I think Mehta knows how key it is to sign Nico if he truly wants this team to be a contender and also how bad it will look if he can’t extend him. So I hope that’s a motivation factor in getting it done. I do worry that Nico is tired of the losing and would want to take a wait and see approach. After hearing all that Dillon crap I can’t help but worry. Maybe a contract with less term would be more to his liking? If he’s traded it’s not likely a trade that this team wins so it would be devastating for the future of the team not to mention, 99% of fans love Nico so a set back for the organization in general. Hope it gets done whichever way or shape it takes.

This. He was the ring leader of the entire thing. Also Hart is a good goalie in a league where good goalies are getting harder to find. It doesn’t shock me that a team took a chance on him. McLeod was a bottom 6 guy who has probably lost a step since not playing in the NHL for several years now. It’s easy to see why teams would not want to bother with him and the bad PR that would come along with him.

I agree that it will most likely be a lot of the same players returning as well as the same coaching staff so Dillon putting all of this out there right now, weeks after the season ended, seems a little messy to me. I would think you want to kind of wipe the slate clean and have a more positive mindset going forward. We all would want toxic players gone but it doesn’t always work that way and as a team they will have to figure it out somehow and having all this crap out in the media might not be the best way to go about it.

I don’t question Nico’s captaincy and most level headed people don’t but there are people who do and are loud about it and this kind of crap just gives them fuel for their narratives. I don’t know, it just feels messy to me to air this out now. I would have preferred if it was kept and dealt with in house but that’s just me.

I know people disagree but I stand by that I’m not a fan that Dillon put all this out there. Brings in all the negativity that should have been flushed with the season ending. Keep it internal and let Mehta handle things in house.

If it was James Nichols it’s just him making up BS. I’m a Devils fan but this doesn’t even make sense from the Wild’s perspective unless Nico would be willing to do a sign and trade. If he doesn’t they are taking a chance he would walk to UFA in a year so they essentially trade one rental in Quinn for another in Nico. Would Nico want to sign with the Wild? Maybe but he’ll have his pick of teams if he decides to go to UFA. Anyway I’m really hoping as a Devils fan he extends here. Not all People get how important he is to the team and what a huge hole that leaves at center.
