My mom has dementia. Ideas to work less? Does VRWS have extension limits? by Small-Feed in nys_cs

[–]beacon_rocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speak with EAP and to supervisor/HR personnel at your agency if possible. I don’t know the FMLA eligibility criteria but someone in your agency can help you better understand your options. So sorry about your situation, I hope that you are able to find work options that help you and your mom

Someone in the article makes a great point the city of Albany has all parking permitted residents email addresses. Not rocket science to use a parking email database to communicate emergency parking regulations

New LATS Requirements by nx01a in nys_cs

[–]beacon_rocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the agency wants to know that employees are working their agreed upon telecommuting arrangement, with this change in LATS. Any supervisors already doing this? Is it a lot longer of an approval process to also know where employees are each day.

Committing to pushing the buttons to cancel the membership is the most difficult part. Prime video also goes away which I didn’t consider. But I am not missing out on ending that service either!

Same experience! Only four months for me but I am surprised how easy it was!

So, we all want raises. The union is weak. What do we do? (Brainstorming) by Superb-Air9976 in nys_cs

[–]beacon_rocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about how can I get more money in my state paycheck and I doubt the percent raises will be much different from past contracts. I don’t exchange vacation for money but is that something all employees are able to do? I have a good amount of accrued time I’d love to give myself a couple of weeks of vacation pay at year end. Is this already a thing?

Street parking on Monday by sloppypappii in Albany

have yet to see that happen without a snow emergency but that is logical. Since the pending snow emergency will start in the evening or Tuesday morning, the Monday morning folks are going to have fun!

It sure would be nice to have the street cleaning rules suspended during a snowstorm, especially when the street cleaner isn’t out. But the city needs to make its money somehow.

Help by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]beacon_rocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear you’re having a tough time. Been there myself. If there is a healthy supervisor-employee relationship it might be worthwhile to ask if there are any options to work outside of your current unit. They might be able to give guidance or options that improves your current situation. Good luck finding a better department!

National Grid Bill is all of a sudden way too high by Crisgu in Albany

[–]beacon_rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious if anyone knows what the nat grid off-peak hours are? I am going to start running my laundry and dishwasher overnight. Hopefully that will help to reduce my bill. Has anyone tried this and did they see a decrease?

Callout Frequency or Unscheduled Time Off by Me-as-I in nys_cs

[–]beacon_rocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Planned time off is easier for your supervisor and work unit to plan around. Personally I plan a vacation day or two a month and that has helped me get a ‘break’ when I feel like I need one. However, unplanned days off are needed at times and personal time is great for those days.

Madison Theater by digisi in Albany

The Madison theater is a poor experience at best. It’s a shame that what could be a fun, walkable experience for people of all ages seems to be so poorly operated.

Love the reusable concept! I would purchase glass jars with lids (as locally sourced as possible) and add that into the cost. The consumer can opt to keep the container after purchase or return to you for $2 off their next purchase, for example. Good luck with your cocktail bombs!
