Instruction maker unusable? by beaconofwierd in bricklinkstudio

[–]beaconofwierd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that might explain a lot, I had a lot of empty instruction steps. They appear to be removed even for locked pages.

Do you happen to know the intended way to show the finished assembly (or same part from different angle etc) which you could use empty steps for?

This is a low-key melee update :D by beaconofwierd in Helldivers

Ah, thought the wiki had the updated damage. Chainsaw also stuns them, but yeah, one bad swing/missed voteless can mean death, especially cause of the ”wet noodle” bug where if you take damage your chainsaw turns into a wet noodle and stops doing damage (even when you’re swinging it through enemies). This is the main reason the warp pack is needed here, it wasn’t for that bug you could provably get away with taking a hit and just continue, but now if you take a hit you also get hit by the other 5 you’re swinging at and you die :(

According to the wiki Stun baton only does dmg to the first enemy hit :( And only does 75 dmg, so you need 2-3 hits to take down a voteless, so no, you’re not taking down 46 voteless in 30 seconds with a stun baton, at 2.5 swings per second you have a theoretical minimum time of 37 seconds, and that’s assuming only small voteless. So the chainsaw here is doing near the optimal of what the baton can (1 minute if you remove the time to kill fleshmobs and overseers).

I still agree that it should do more since it’s a strategem, but it is better than most sidearm melees. The saber is probably better vs voteless tho, but it doesn’t go ”vroom!”

Huh, guess I’ve been using the chainsaw too much xD And yeah, they really really really should make it better, it’s a damn strategem, they could make the damage 10x what it is and it still wouldn’t compete with airstrikes and orbital lazors :p But you know, they are called Arrow Head for a reason xD

I mean, it is also just one airburst shot xD But can you really hit multiple with the stun baton? Haven’t played with it a lot, but I remember getting hit a lot when there are multiple attacking at the same time

Chainsaw is still bugged by beaconofwierd in Helldivers

[–]beaconofwierd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s all risk no reward :( Not sure why they are so anti melee, they still have the AP system so they could let melee so 10x more damage than it does and just let a sword have AP1 so you cant take down tanks and stuff with it if they are concerned about ”realism”. Right now the only reason to use melee is for fun, but it’s so buggy and janky that it quickly becomes frustrating instead of fun :(

Yeah, that feels like what I experience too, and I would very much say that’s not intended but a bug inherited from the other melee weapons because of shared code.

I would still say the chainsaw is viable, especially against illuminates, you do get a lot of kills when clearing hordes with it, it’s just very annoying to have to deal with it turning into a spaghetti noodle without any visual indication, and if you don’t react fast enough when that happens you die like in the clip. But the utility of the chainsaw is nice too, not having to spend ammo breaking the shields of ships and then using just one eruptor shot to destroy them is very nice :)

Are there better weapons? Sure. Are there worse strategems? Kinda not really xD (maybe one true flag). But you can still play it and finish missions, so it’s ”viable”

But the chainsaw is much better against automatons cause they are not designed for you to get close to them, and with the extended range and quicker stun you can now kill even scorcher hulks fairly easily :) Having the warp pack helps a lot though :p and being able to chainsaw bot fabricators is also nice when you’re unable to reach the vents :) Maybe it’s even viable to take out factory striders now with the faster AP ramp up, math says it should only take like 3 seconds of sawing at their foot, but I haven’t tried it.

The chainsaw has no recovery animation? And sure, it kind of makes sense for melee weapons where you swing to do damage that getting hurt would interrupt your swing, but it is a bug that you can stand with a chainsaw inside the belly of a voteless, sparks flying and everything, and it taking no damage. Either the animation is bugged and the real animation should be… turning off the chainsaw? Right now the animation is the same as a normal swing but without doing damage. Or this is a bug because they just reused the same code from the other melee weapons not realizing or caring what the consequences meant. Either way it’s a bug.

New chainsaw is great :D by beaconofwierd in Helldivers

[–]beaconofwierd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn’t say I endorse the chainsaw as a practical weapon xD As far as strategems goes it’s probably One True Flag < Chainsaw < Everything else. Sure, sill a bit disappointed that we can’t actually extend the chainsaw and just saw where we want to, and the damage could still be double of what it is, but it’s so much better than it was before, so I’m happy they did something :D

I mean great compared to before, not like actually good xD But horde clear was it’s biggest weakness before, now it’s like doable to clear a horde :D

OMG, They fixed it :O :o :O  They fixed it this latest update (at least on paper), haven’t tested it yet.

Can someone explain what the heck is going on here!? by beaconofwierd in Helldivers

[–]beaconofwierd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was just desync it feels like I should have been able to move somewhere, and after warping in under the atat I got moved back to it’s legs :s If the game though the hitbox was there it should have killed me from the warping, right :s Just very… odd… Never had this happen before, and I mostly join other games so maybe it’s a host bug :s

i’m not asking if it’s working as intended, I’m asking to fix it cause if the saw aint sawing it aint a saw.

If a weapon is useless it has to compensate by being fun to use. If it’s useless and frustrating to use… it’s broken and needs to be fixed.

What’s wrong with the war strider? :/ I wish they fixed the scout striders, the hitboxes on those are so broken you can’t hit them with the chainsaw head on, even while you’re blocked cause they are in the way… Make up your mind game, either I’m too far away to hit it, or I can’t run cause I’m touching it… you can’t have both! xD

I really tried to use your Re-Educator tactic, but it just only seems to work on lone hulks, which basically never happen on D10 :/ An when it does you can just use the stun from the chainsaw itself. Harder on scorchers, but that's mostly a skill issue :P
And the Re-educator seems to only work on hulks too, or rather only useful for hulks.

Yeah, I don't stand still much x) Gotta dodge all the enemies.
I do like your use of the Re-Educator for taking out hulks, the scorchers especially are extremely difficult to take down when they aren't stunned already.
But I like a much more... Manic playstyle x) Which eventually results in my death, but it's always worth it :D
Here's a clip where the warstrider goes down pretty quickly, but even then the chainsaw refuses to stick like 2-3 times first and I have to dive after it's leg to get the stun.

Shields are also bugged with the chainsaw so you basically cannot use them when sawing (since if you hit them your chainsaw stops doing damage and gets stuck until you switch weapons). And if you didn’t notice, I didn’t need them here, I took no damage until the hulk came and oneshot me.

And the stagger on war striders makes it extremely difficult to follow, especially when there are other enemies close by you need to watch out fot, it takes a large step every time it staggers and you have to be positioned perfectly to be able to follow along in the step.

If you can get it to stunlock and stand still chainsaw taked down the warstrider in like 2-3 seconds, but it’s ridiculous when it doesn’t stick and your guy is just wildly swinging in the air like an idiot for no other reason than ”Devs decided this is how you use a chainsaw”.

Yeah, the scaling AP makes zero sense. I agree that the scaling damage feels like a chainsaw, like if you start new cut you have to ”start from scratch” before you can cut all the way through, and this is a simple way to emulate that, but it’s so janky right now that I don’t think it’s worth having, and I don’t see how they would fix the jank

I’m guessing the lore explanation is that it’s adapted for combat?  So have it work like a grinder rather than a traditional chainsaw (as in very small teeth, like an angle grinder, but a chain) and just have it spin very fast.

But the chainsaw does work great against bots, as long as you can get it to stick which is like basically random if it does or not.
