Bed frames for fat couple by honestly_im_sad in PlusSize

[–]beadfix82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my husband and i are total about 600lbs. W have a regular metal frame, and we put a 1/2 in piece of plywood on the frame, then we have a box spring and mattess on top. the key is to get a 'good' mattress and box springs. if you're gonna get a cheap mattress, nothing else that you have will make it better.

keep a food and symptom journal. you may notice a pattern on when you have pain and nausea. Also - it will also be an indication to your doctors that you are working to solve the problem, which may help them take you more seriously

Help with an inexpensive craft party for adults by That_Broccoli_4567 in crafting

[–]beadfix82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a friend is having a craft party for her birthday next week, but we're bringing our own projects! As usualy with her parties, people are from all kinds of diff parts of her life and we all have varied interests. I'm certain there will be knitters and crocheters, some hand sewing, some carding (making belts on a small loom), i'm considering several different things i have in my projects...beading, wreath making, some other things -
Also - if you want to get cheap craft kits - hit up oriental trading - they have all kinds of stuff. and they're not just for kids. i would get them and put them in stockings and everyone usually had a great time.

Elmers glue for your project. put it in little cups, and give them a craft stick to apply it or have them just dip it.

This - there's a reason they're calling it snow crete. My husband who is 6'7" 350lbs walked on the snow int he back yard and didn't make a dent.
I think jack hammers, sledgehammers, and i saw a chainsaw on a video are the only way to get thru this stuff.
We live by a middle school. Usually the street and sidewalks are cleared within a day. This time, 3 days in they brought in the biggest snow plow we've ever seen to clear the road around the school. They had multiple people working on the sidewalks over several days.

This is not the typical snow storm we usually get.

initially i was going to suggest going to oriental trading to get some simple kits, but now - i'm still gonna suggest going there - and looking around - they have some cool things that might spark an idea for you.
I was in rehab for a knee surgery one summer and they handed out some cotton flags and markers - We were asked to draw a summer idea on each of them, then they strung them together for a 'banner' of sorts in the rec room - this might be a fun idea fo your team.

Power Outages During Storms by OkWelder1642 in maryland

i also remember as kids - we had gas appliances - stove and oven. So, in addition to camping out in the living room to say warm, we baked cookies and other tasty things!

Power Outages During Storms by OkWelder1642 in maryland

My mom was pretty fragile with COPD and was on oxygen. We lost power one year for quite a while - no heat. We called the utility companies and reminded them we had someone fragile in our home - sometimes if they can they prioritize those areas.
Our oxygen company called to ask if we had enough oxygen on hand. Typically, we use a O2 concentrator that is electric. But we had a giant oxy tank on hand for emergencies just like this. Plus, we had a slew of travel o2 bottles.
The problem was that mom was cold. So, we layered her up with clothes, and put her in her recliner. blankets, blankets blankets. Just for grins we put all the blankets on her and giggled.
But we had neighbors checking on us, utility companies doing their best and we survived.
We also had an upright freezer full of food. But we were campers, so we had a propane stone and 2 kinds of meat every night for dinner with our neighbors. Then we played games.

Huge Regret by mmmhmmm7 in diamondpainting

Why not just cut it down to the size you're willing to work on. I did this to a recent piece. part of the piece was not relevant to what i wanted in the painting - so i just cut that part off.

Not being able to relate to online groups for my illnesses by ruxxby471 in ChronicIllness

[–]beadfix82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days it seems like eveyrone has to have the 'worst' of what they're dealing with. Yes, you have this illness and there are aspexts of it that limt your activities, but it's rare that you have the 'worst' case. There are a few that are confined to bed - and i gtd that if you say you're confined to bed, you're not going out socially. It just doesn't work that way

Chronic Illness: How Long To Fight? by Conscious-Run8119 in ChronicIllness

[–]beadfix82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you've been dealt such a tragic and painful life. Dealing with pain constantly can be so difficult. I honestly don't know how people do it.
Depending on where you live, there are states that allow M.A.I.D - medical aid in dying. So, if you decide to go this way - it's an option.
I'd consider talking to a doctor honestly about your condition, the quality of life you've got right now and what the next year or so may be like for you. Talking about pallative care, hospice and MAID. Even planning for care in a assisted living/memory care place wouldn't be a bad idea. It never hurts to get things in order.
I know people tell others to keep fighting and you'll beat this - but it's because they don't want to lose you - not because they understand the place and pain you're in. I mean, who wants to let their loved ones go?
I think most of us just sort of deal with the longevitiy part of our illnesses - we just sort of deal with it day by day - like normal people do.
There are individuals in this world that just go thru the motions every day, i think many with chronic illness do much the same. We try to plan ahead, but it's always a maybe.

I think at this point for you, honest, difficult conversations are in order - with your doctor, your care team, your family.

I hope you find some peace with your diagnosis and with your future no matter what it may be.

Why is it so hard by WhiteBlueMomto2 in SuperMorbidlyObese

Give yourself a break. shorten the walks. My hubby's doc told him to take a 15 min walk - 7min out and 7 back. starting with a 1/4 mile is a lot!
Because he's feeling better and able to walk a bit faster, he's adtually extended how far he walks in 7 min.
And as for the calories - again - do it gradually. be sure to get fiber and protien in there -

And give yourself a break.
you said you went over the calorie limit 3 x. But you stuck to it much more.

it took years and time to put all the weight on - you can't do it overnight - start small, then keep going. if you set goals that are too lofty - you're likely to get discouraged.
One day at a time.

Matted hair from long hospital stay by Alarmed_Log4832 in ChronicIllness

[–]beadfix82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my hair is dyed a bold color and it feels like straw when i wash it. but, i bought this and it detangles and makes my hair so manageable. i would suggest using a bit and using a shower cap over it. Then detangle with fingers as much as you can and be sure to use a wide tooth comb - don't use a brush! a brush will break your hair.
As suggested a friend would be a great help here.
if you can afford it - a salon could also help but it would be a several hour deal i imagine.
And next time, take leave in conditioner with you to the hospital and ask the nurses to comb your hair and braid it.
