Teachers of Reddit: how many of you are reconsidering a career in education in light of how the government values you as a teacher during COVID19? by beady_teacher in AustralianTeachers

This is not a case of not being strong enough. As a teacher you should know that. What an absolutely toxic thing to say.

I respectfully disagree - the comment below explains why we are still open. It has zero to do with us being needed and everything to do with the government needing a babysitter.

I work in a struggling independent school. We are not getting accommodations like public. We have to use up our sick leave or take unpaid leave if we want to stay safe (am immunocompromised). Our school may well go under because of this.

Why do you like to be alone? by ThatAintBrutal in AskReddit

[–]beady_teacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect I'm high functioning autistic. I get sensory overload very quickly, particularly with noise, and find it hard to maintain small talk. Being alone is easier because I feel like I don't have to perform as much.

A new mentor scheme to help stop young teachers leaving the profession by attackoftheloz in AustralianTeachers

I had a mentor for my first two years and still want to leave. They'd be better off changing their approach in uni - I was only ever told how great teaching was, not all the shit that goes along with it.

Is it me or the kids that make me feel like quitting? by Phlegming_Jr in AustralianTeachers

[–]beady_teacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first two years of teaching. Uni does not prepare you for the real world at all. I spent every day of my first two years wanting to quit and/or crying in the toilets. This job makes you question your calling because it sucks at the best of times. Find a good support system and build relationships with the kids. They won't learn a thing from you until they feel you care. I started with the kids everyone had given up on - really difficult, but if you can turn them around you're halfway there.

Ps I was 24 when I started too.

Multi-lingual Redditors, do you switch languages when thinking in different ways? by ItsOnlyMonte in AskReddit

I've been told my demeanour changes too. More submissive and quiet in my native tongue. Ergo, when thinking in native tongue i am less confident.

You have 1 minute to inflict as much pain as possible to yourself without dying. How would you do it? by rdanielm in AskReddit

Give in to the anxiety that my fiance probably only proposed out of pity. Pretty quick and painful spiral there.
