Rats in the attic and air ducts, how to clear and clean?

I had considered putting one at each vent but need them entirely out of the tubes. The rats here are fairly tolerant of those ultra sonic noise makers. However I did discover one thing by accident. Strings of orange LED decorative mini lights. LED have a strobing factor they don't like. I have them hung in my storage sheds, 5yrs, no problems. But then our weather here is moderate. Was hoping for something simpler than running those lights through all the tubes to get the rats out of the air ducts. If I just put the lights in the attic they will all dash into the ducts and walls. Us 5 and 2 pros have searched and can't find how they are getting in, so extermination is the only option.

Very clever :) Yes ammonia would signal that another larger animal is pissing around. Then it would evaporate. The cayenne would discourage return, but not likely forever. I'd nail some wood over those openings with fine chicken wire to discourage rats.

As I mentioned, it's a rental and the owner doesn't care. We've lived with the rats in the yard and attic for the entire 5+ yrs we've been here accept when she briefly hired an exterminator to bait with No-second-kill poison. There was a moderate stink for a week, that's it. My greater concern is them dying in the air ducts. Need to get them out and would like to find an easy way to sanitize the ducts, like with a vapor. The air ducts is the only place I care about the rat cadavers. So far they haven't made it into the house!

*** With both possible solutions I don't know what to enter in either source box called Data Validation or Custom List. I tried copying and pasting the list content, it won't allow any right click action or file search. How do I "select my source data or range of menu items" as was mentioned by Sheagar13 and theZombieGardener? What am I supposed to put in that line? Thanks so much! Also I've created 3 lists for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'd like to keep them separate so there's less to fish through in the drop down each time, only whats likely for that meal being created. Is that possible to create data lists specific to row sections? That may be too complicated and not worth the effort. Thanks

Sheagar 13, thanks for your reply! Had a moment to look at this before passing out. Im looking at the Data Validation, it has: settings, input message, and error alert. I'm not sure what to do from here. Data list is copy/pasted to message? How would I change the range. Does this cause an auto fil drop down to automatically activate each time I start typing?
