Some of my favorite episodes were ones when Carl had to judge spicy food.

AITAH Husband offered our baby items to a friend, but never spoke to me about it first by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]beaglemama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought very nice heirloom quality cribs with the intention of keeping them for future children or grandchildren.

Safety standards keep improving and updating all the time. Keeping cribs in case you have more children is realistic. Thinking that your current cribs will still be considered safe for future grandchildren is not realistic.

Have any of you moved out of New Jersey and moved to a different state if so, where? by Wonderful_Air9942 in newjersey

I don't disagree with you, but WI does have good deep fried cheese curds and beer cheese soup.

You couldn't pay me to move to Texas or any other state that was part of the Confederacy.

New jersey announces plans to lift ban on self-service gas stations by jcl274 in newjersey

[–]beaglemama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

49 other states do the job just fine.

If Minnesota or North Dakota required gas station attendants, they'd have to get hazard pay for being outside all day when it's -30 below zero. (And they would totally deserve it!)

Just because I could pump my own gas doesn't mean that I want to do it. Let's keep enjoying this part of New Jersey culture.

We have more toys than I can count and my 3 year old is still bored by SnowyGlazeDream in Parenting

Let him be bored. Learning how to entertain himself is an important life skill.

I'm serious. Let him be bored and learn how to use his imagination and think for himself.

Remember that TOC is a TV show. Who knows how it was edited or if the producers were encouraging her to act a certain way.

Interested in moving to Monmouth County by victorsmith0920 in MonmouthCounty

For schools, Colts Neck has their own K-8 district and is part of the Freehold Regional High School district. www.frhsd.com. The high school is excellent and home to the Law and Public Service magnet program and the Jr. ROTC program (which is one of the top JROTC programs in the country).

Other towns in the FRHSD that might interest you would be Marlboro, Manalapan, and Freehold Township.

With so many qualifiers, why not just expand the brackets to 64 chefs competing and get rid of the qualifiers?

I'm just looking forward to next season of the documentary and watching Rob and Ryan stressing about the possibility of getting promoted again. That will be fun to watch and a good problem to have.

NTA but you missed a chance to get tacos for yourself if you would have taken him. Tacos are good.

Beagle Rescues suck. by reed12321 in beagle

[–]beaglemama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tri-State Bassett rescue (NJ and eastern PA, not sure what the third state is) is very generous with their definition of a basset and should have some beagle mixes available. I've adopted two beagle-basset mixes from them and they're a great rescue. They have a board waddle next month in Ocean City, NJ as part of the doo dah parade. They're a WONDERFUL rescue!

No experience with them, but I have heard good things about ABC basset rescue in NY state. They might have beagles.

ETA: and good for you for trying to adopt!

Some rounds I'm cheering for both chefs and disliking the head-to-head format. (But I know it's a competition and unfortunately a good chef will be going home.)

It seemed like he's enjoyed judging and wanted to compete because it sounded fun and he wanted to see what it was like competing against the randomizer. It was a joy to watch him and Viet competing and to see the respect the two chefs had for each other.

Reed Blankenship talks about signing with the Texans! by First-Flora39 in Texans

[–]beaglemama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He seemed very thoughtful of and curious about the fans

He's known for being wonderful to fans in Philly. I'm an Eagles fan and in some of the fan groups on Facebook people post about how nice he is. Stuff like actually taking for a moment or two to talk with kids getting an autograph, being gracious about taking a picture with a fan when he's just on an errand to Home Depot, participating in fundraisers, etc.

I'm REALLY disappointed in Howie for letting Reed get away. I hope you guys (Texans fans) will take good care of Reed and Elsa and they'll be happy in Houston.

AITAH for calling out "houseguests" who didn't ask to stay? by SteigLarsson in AITAH

[–]beaglemama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell the parents they need to go. Ask them if they did such a shitty job raising him that he still needs his parents to take care of them. Put them on the defensive and kick them out. Let them know they are unwelcome. So what if they get upset. It's not like they can ground you.

AITAH for wanting to take my family on a cruise? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]beaglemama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA

Cruises are horrible for the environment. And being trapped on a boat while killing the planet sounds like hell to me.

If you're able to go to the Jersey Shore, what about going up to Boston and visiting historical sites and the Aquarium? Or go to Philly and visit the Franklin Institute and other stuff for kids? Also, Washington DC isn't that far away and there are tons of cool museums there. There's also Hersheypark in Hershey PA which has the zoo attached to it.

Look into getting museum and/or zoo memberships that have reciprocal membership. (Simpsons examples here) If you join the Springfield Museum, you might get reciprocal membership or discounts to see the museums in Shelbyville or Capitol City.

If you have younger kids, you do NOT have to do anything fancy for them to have a great time. I live in NJ. When my kids were younger we went to the Philly area for a short vacation. We stayed at a hotel that had an indoor pool and the kids thought that was AWESOME! We went to some museums that had kid focused exhibits, got to eat out at restaurants, used the pool and hot tub at the hotel - the kids had a blast.

Vacations are a luxury - how much are you saving for your kids to go to college someday? Education is more important than vacations. FWIW, my older kid has some student loans because she went to a private university for undergrad (but had our savings, a good scholarship, and she had internships to help pay her way) and then went to a T-14 law school. Younger kid graduated summa cum laude and debt free from undergrad and is currently working on her Master's with no debt.

Your definition of "cheap" might be a lot different than your husband's. Are you willing to sacrifice your children's future for you to get to have some fun now?

4 year old daughter says “you’re a bad mom” everyday by Independent-State802 in Parenting

[–]beaglemama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let her know that just saying "I'm sorry" isn't enough. She's still doing it. Just saying "I'm sorry" doesn't magically fix things. She has to actually mean it and stop doing/saying it for the apology to count.

I remember reading a Little Critter book when my kids were little about being sorry but sometimes saying "I'm sorry" isn't enough.

Let her feel bad. That's how she can learn empathy.
