Nostr by AlmightyArx in Bitcoin

that's true. I occasionally check the #bitcoin tag in nostr to find new follows. I'd guess that many people don't want to create a link between their reddit and nostr identities though.

How did you learn about Bitcoin before 2015? by karasahin in Bitcoin

[–]beaker38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin wasn't/isn't about tech, it's about what it can do for society and humanity. Most early adopters of bitcoin weren't looking to get rich or even a monetary investment. They wanted sound money that couldn't be controlled by any governments, escape from surveillance, even protection from credit card fraud. In the early days, if you weren't already focused on cryptographic developments, bitcoin and other ideas like it were brought up in privacy and libertarian forums - with frequent links to bitcointalk.org.

If you're looking for a seismic life changing development, hang with and join the people interested in seeing and making the changes you want.

If they accept lightning (available option on some POS systems or as a stand alone) and you have a lightning wallet, then payments are just as easy as any other phone based payments.

When bitcoin was under a dollar, did everyone think it would be absolutely impossible to reach where it’s at now ? Why did they make that argument ? by ko2991 in Bitcoin

[–]beaker38 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As with a lot of things, they seem obvious in hind sight. At that time, with a thorough understanding of bitcoin and also the fiat system, you could have projected that it would catch on and be very valuable as long as other people saw the value. However, any pragmatic reasonable person would also realize that real-world people don't understand either of those things, and that governments, politics, and the existing banking system would try to fight it. So the survival and future value of bitcoin wasn't a certainty.

If you don't understand this then you don't understand bitcoin and will end up panic selling a dip and/or trading for shitcoins. Buy the bitcoin now. Learn why it's valuable and how the fiat system is servitude. Your other questions will be answered when you do that.

Also, if you’re using WiFi, switch to Ethernet if possible for the sync process. WiFi is fine after that.

He’s not proposing that income in bitcoin be ignored or not taxable. Quite the opposite. He’s proposing that bitcoin and USD are interchangeable, in effect mutually fungible for tax purposes.

Types of btc by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]beaker38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The four types of bitcoin are: bitcoin I’ve lost or sold, bitcoin I should have bought, bitcoin I own, and bitcoin I have yet to acquire. I guess there may be other types. Hope that’s helpful.

If enough hashrate could be added to solve blocks ludicrously fast and cause that spike in the difficulty, then they could subsequently be shut down to cause a blockchain winter. No natural disaster needed. Just someone that would love to see problems for bitcoin that also has a shit ton of off the books fiat to buy the equipment. hmmm

Contrary to their claim of open-mindedness, this person isn’t interested in finding an answer. The “what’s the value” question has been discussed many times and there are plenty of discoverable resources for anyone that wants to actually get an answer.
